Alexander/Xander is Mercedes’ younger brother.
Clarence Hayes’ Aid First organization was a front for a black market organ transplant enterprise. He was behind Danny’s murder. Turns out Danny was the original target, not Marcus. Danny had been secretly investigating the enterprise with Alexander Cabot who had sent him the info that was on the flash drive he gave Leah. Also, Danny’s FBI partner Rick O’Keane was the one who had hired Sebastian to kill Danny. Hayes was dangling a lung transplant for his son as motivation to stop Danny.
Rick came to kill Leah and ended up getting shot by Seth. He asked that his lungs be given to his son right before he died.
Leah and Marcus realized they were in love with each other and came to terms with their guilt about being together. They’re living together and the kids embraced their relationship. She now wants to spearhead an aid organization similar to what Aid First was supposed to be doing, starting with Central African Republic.
The story ends with the epilogue showing Xander being held captive by Harrison Stead at Defion where he and Dr. Denasova performing mind control experiments on him. (hide spoiler)]
