Most interlibrary loans will send the book to your local library where you check it at more or less as usual. You don't have to go there in person. I've done it several times. The process is a little different than my regular process of putting a hold on a book, but it is pretty easy.
It does take longer to get the book shipped to your library. As a matter of fact, I'm waiting for an interlibrary book now.
Check with your local library about how to do it.
