"Children's illustrated book, probably 80s. Two girls get given a box of biscuits by a local baker and have to transport them to a wedding without breaking them

I can remember so many details about this book but just cannot find a trace of it anywhere so wondering if i made it up... it was set in England and I think in the 80s, there were two girls who were friends with a baker who gave them a white box of biscuits to transport to a wedding. On the way to the wedding they got stopped by a bully who wanted to kick the box and break the biscuits I think. They managed to get to the wedding where they were allowed to finish up all the desserts from the wedding party. I read this book in about 2009 but i think it belonged to my parents born in the mid 70s.

The illustrations were very distinctive, a sketchy kind of impressionistic style with splashes of colour. Please help I'm going crazy lol"

Did the victim receive a single letter containing a death threat? What did the letter say?

How did the victim appear to be killed? Where was his body found?

Can you tell us more about the protagonist? How did he get to the house/mansion? Who do the other people think he is?

Paula, what was the crime and who was the victim? Main location?
