1) CREATE A NEW BOOK REQUEST USING THIS LINK:
- https://www.goodreads.com/topic/new?c... The App is MISSING many Group features (such as editing your topic header and comments). Try opening a web browser like Chrome or Safari, then scroll to the bottom and tap "Desktop version." Sometimes it takes a few tries to switch over.
- ONE book (or book series) per topic or discussion thread. This will avoid confusion in this very large group.
- Sorry but we don't allow cross-posting from other social media sites. There's been a rise in requests appearing in the group that were generated on sites like Facebook and Reddit. Our group is not intended to be a clearinghouse for every book request. Rather, the purpose of the group is to help you locate a book that YOU read and then forgot.
2) TOPIC (header/ title) MUST INCLUDE GENRE AND PLOT DETAILS:
- NO vague headers like "Romance" or "YA Fantasy" or "Fiction" or "Looking for this book." Threads with vague headers will be CLOSED. (This group manages thousands of book requests.)
- NO spoilers in the header. If you include spoilers in the comments below, type a warning like "Spoilers ahead." in the header.
- Leave the "This topic is about" box EMPTY for now. After your book is found, the title will go in this box.
- "YA/YOUNG ADULT" = Teens, in this group. "ADULT" includes "New Adult" (main characters in their 20s).
- Note: Moderators will add "[s]" to the end of the header when they add a book to the group bookshelf.
3) FOLDER:
- Select UNSOLVED: One specific book from the drop-down menu.
4) COMMENT:
- Provide as much information as you remember (e.g., plot details, book genre, character descriptions, for YA (teens/ young adults) or Adults, around what YEAR you read the book (a range of years is fine), did the book seem old, time period and location (country/ region/ city) of the story, cover image, author's gender, ebook/ dead tree/ audio, etc.). In what language or country was the book published?
5) NOTIFY ME WHEN PEOPLE REPLY:
- Select this check box to receive Notifications which will help you find your request in the future.
- Mobile App: select "Get e-mailed about comments."
6) Lastly, click "POST" to submit your book request. (Mobile App: ">" arrowhead button)
► IMPROVE YOUR HEADER/ TOPIC TITLE - OR MOVE THREAD TO "SOLVED" FOLDER:
- Click the small "EDIT" link after the header. This only works on the "Desktop version" of the Website. (On the Mobile Website, click the "Desktop version" link at the bottom of the page.)
► BUMPING: "OP" (original poster) CAN "BUMP" THEIR TOPIC/ THREAD EVERY 30+ DAYS (or every FEW MONTHS) by posting a NEW COMMENT.
- If you remember new details, you can add them at any time. This group is very large and we want to give everyone's thread a chance to be seen.
- Do not create duplicate threads for the same request. Bump your original request.
► WHERE ARE MY OLD REQUESTS? Click "My Group Topics" on our Group Homepage, in the right-hand column. This only works on the full Desktop Website and Mobile Website.
- Come back and check the Unsolved (and Possibly Solved) folders for replies and suggested solutions.
► SPOILERS ARE FINE IN THE COMMENTS - BUT NOT THE HEADER/ TOPIC TITLE:
- Provide a clear warning before revealing a spoiler.
- Currently, the simplest (and perhaps best) way is to type SPOILER..., leave some blank lines, then type the spoiler details in a comment. Some members want to read this book, and this makes it easier for them to avoid accidentally reading a spoiler.
- The "Spoiler" html tag hides your text, but doesn't work on the Mobile App (currently, the spoiler comments are automatically displayed).
- Example: < spoiler> Type the comments you want to hide here... < /spoiler> BUT don't type the spaces before "spoiler" and "/spoiler" (that is, remove the spaces inside the brackets). It will look like this: (view spoiler)[This spoiler is hidden because some members might want to read this book as well. (hide spoiler)]
► DO NOT DELETE YOUR FIRST MESSAGE OR COMMENT.
- This will avoid confusion. Also, this message usually contains information that helps to identify your book. This can help other people looking for this book in the future.
► FOUND YOUR BOOK? GREAT. POST A NEW COMMENT IN YOUR THREAD/ TOPIC TO LET US KNOW the book title and author. Simply editing the header is not enough, as we might not notice the change.
- Post a new comment with an update, and we'll move your thread to the appropriate folder.
► NO LONGER INTERESTED IN FINDING THE BOOK? No problem. Just post a new comment to let us know.
► CREATE A BOOK REQUEST.
