Hi! This is a really interesting documentary about the murder of over decades of more than a thousand in..."
We're talking about MMIW now? Very important! And so tragic.
EDIT: It only works in the UK;(

Sascha, maybe D.J. wasn't speaking of the flags of countries, but the flag of feminism? Like, flags are a symbol and while I have never seen a flag of feminism yet, I think this would be a really good idea.

I do feel like sh..."
The Beauty Myth hurts people, it really does. It draws a wrong picture of the individuals, which is why it is very bad.

That's definitely a good thing. What was this all about then, tho? I mean, if the US military didn't receive anything, but Trump publicly spoke about it, (on Twitter as well, as usual). How much effect will this have? The muslim ban is now partially in force too, so, I hope this doesn't take the same road?

HRT sucks(at least for me personally), and considering that they go into battle where their medication might not be available.
That's courage, in my eyes.

For saturday!

But then, I think I'd rather not find out.

In my opinion it is difficult to make out one face for each wave, it always depends on your demographics and where you are from, I suppose. It can be difficult even in one country; but then, I don't think we need ONE face, a few are fine too.

You are my second family!
I need to tell you something. Something about me. Something that meant a lot of hurt for me so far.
It takes a lot of balls to talk about this, it does:
I am intersex.
It's pretty difficult to write this down actually, because I never did this before, but I feel I need to. For my brothers and sisters, my siblings. Who were here before me, and will be here after me. Who are here.
We are here. We exist. We are beautiful. We need not be altered. There was nothing wrong with me, only with how society views gender and sex.
It wasn't an easy journey so far, and I know it won't be easy, but this is my journey, and I will walk the walk and talk the talk. Our genitals remain to us, they are no one else's business. They are ours and the people we confide in.
It is so hurtful to see all the same things happen again and again; they put their noses in businesses that are not theirs. Recurring thoughts, again and again. About all the bad shit that happened to my kind.
I am done with it, I won't be silent.
Feminism is the social, political and economic equality of the sexes, isn't it?
I am a woman.

OurSharedShelf, you are my home when my home isn't my home.

"People kept asking what was wrong with me, and I had a sudden violent urge to scream, "Nothing is wrong with me!"
I'm just different."
"To you, I say, "You aren't alone. I am here, too.""

I definitely agree with you Denise, the sad thing is. that intersex people don't have it that much better in the Western World either. I've listened to it now and I'd say it's a pretty good interview/documentary. I needed to stop for a few minutes, because of the atrocities that happen, but now that I finished listening to it, I'd say everyone who wants to help intersex people needs to listen to it.
Don't apologize, it's great that you shared it with us.

Btw, a "resource" wasn't really what I was thinking of. A discussion was more what I was thinking of.

That's so important to remember.
You just made me happier with this.

I assume the problem many people have is how genderfluidity means this shifting, and not being set somewhere.

I sent you a request. Then I can add.

So, Ryan, you mention the sex/gender, or nature/nurture debate. To be honest, I think there needs to be more research done, from a queer point of view, not a heteronormative one. We had that up and down already. Gender cannot be totally socially constructed, or otherwise intersex persons and transgender people wouldn't have the struggles they have. They would just conform to the gender they were raised in.
You say you cannot understand what non-binary people go through on a daily basis. I'm not sure if I can, but I know that the binary can suck very much.
What do you mean with "both sides of the coin"? Agreement and disagreement? Or cisgender and transgender? Because everything that is not cisgender is transgender.
I agree with you, that there is more evidence for the traditional view, but then as I said above, the mindset with which it was examined was a traditional (meaning heteronormative) one.
I see why you have a feeling of this having an aggressive nature, but I'll tell you this, and please, don't take it as an offense: When the very existence of oneself is non-existent in the public eye, or among people oneself holds dearly, then this makes oneself aggressive, believe me, it really does. One could argue it the other way around: The heteronormative mindset has been shoved down our throats for long enough, and I don't hold anything against heterosexual cisgender people, but when one sees them all the time and never oneself, then this makes one aggressive.
When it comes to acknowledging, it is always important to listen to those you want to acknowledge, because otherwise you might do more harm than good.
Now, you mentioned #racefluid, and I have to say I don't really understand what you want to say with this. First, I know I am not the person that has a say in this, but as far as I understand it, one cannot be racefluid. I said I am not someone who has a say in this because I'm totally white, and therefore if a person who is mixed might wanna say something to this, I'm glad to hear.
You also bring up language, and language is so important in the gender debate, because of pronouns. One intersex person I got to know uses the Swedish word "hen" to describe themselves, because hen don't think the German language has any pronouns for hen to offer that would suit.
And now for the pronoun debate: Just ask yourself if you would be fine with being adressed with a different pronoun. You probably aren't, and I just wish mutual respect for each other's choice of pronouns. It's actually very simple.
Ross, I still need to come to a conclusion if gender is a total construct, because the case of David Reimer showed us that gender isn't totally nurture, there also must be some nature in it. I would say tho that gender expression is completely socially learned.
Ana, I agree with you, cisgender people have privileges that transgender people don't have. Not being questioned for example. That is such a huge privilege...
And I second you that no one is entitled to disagree with someone's choice of pronouns. I wouldn't even say it's polite to respect pronoun choice, for me that's just something that needs to be done.

But I can also see her joining the resistance, although I see that less likely, (view spoiler)
I really thought she was going to end her life, when she was in her room thinking of possibilities what to do. The one I thought is really interesting is when she said she should kill Serena (that's what she was thinking of, wasn't she? Because she said she would put them both out of their misery.
What really saddens me is that we know that Gilead lasted for at least more than generation, and so I know that even if Offred has joined the resistance, she wasn't able to tear it down, this totally fucked up system of a society. Sorry for language, but this book gave me really troubles.
