I totally agree with you. I see the hurdles in reminding us all that inequality affects us all in many ways, there are many factors that lead to inequality.

I'll read that when I have more time! A very long article needs its time.

I agree with you completely. But didn't Emma say she wanted it to be UN Human (or something similar, I can't remember it that well...), she doesn't want to need to distinguish anymore?

Nothing to add here:)

Now, I have never seen a problem with the wording of HeforShe in particular, more with it in general. I'd rather have it worded AllforEquality, because that includes everyone. Now, I totally get what the aim of the wording is, and it is really, really important to step up and help women around the world, but forgive me, I always also think of the people who aren't even recognized in our society yet, the ones who do not fit into the gender binary.
Oh, and I don't think you mansplained, it's not that you downtalked a woman who's the expert and you're not the expert. Nothing like that.

179584 The Sportschau had their first female commentator (at least from what I know, I watch since a few years now) on saturday, when they summarize all the games of football in the Bundesliga of the day.

Ashna, first I would like to say thank you in trusting us and that it is brave to share a story like yours.
Second, I am horrified that you were treated like this, still are...
And third, maybe you should go see an endocrinologist, who can help you to get your hormones back in a balance again that suits you.

179584 A great article, and sadly, there seems to be a need for a SheforShe.
I think that is actually pretty embarassing.

She just asked that the shoes of her daughter should be the way she likes them and waterproof/a bit more withstanding in general. And then there are people who say this is a first-world-problem?

I think it's more a first-world-problem that they even say it's a first-word-problem. But then, I am maybe not the best one to answer that last line.

179584 Okay, I need to apolopgize that I bore everyone with this now:

I mean, I still have my problems with the heading of the article, but human, I'm so happy right now!
One more out there, oh, I could party all night!

P.S.: Who would have thought that the Daily Mail has us in this way in their journalism? They didn't even use slurs:)

Happy night/day/dusk/dawn wherever you are right now!

That's sad. I mean, members can always ask in the Pay-It-Forward thread, but the thing about the books is that they should be accessible to as many people as possible.

So, this is a topic from the early days, mods, have you settled on any decision regarding this? It is a really good idea, I think.

Have a nice time, everyone!

I cannot really make up my mind about this, but I think it's definitely got a bad flavour in it.

179584 I was called flat-chested, and that if I would ever get breasts, they would be super-small (and more or less never satisfy a boy) by classmates.
I was told that I should have bigger breasts by my own mom.
I was told that I was weak more than once by people (not directly, but that was what they really meant), until I proved them wrong and heaved pretty heavy stuff around. I'm not as strong as others, but I'm stronger than people realize at first sight.

Welcome to OurSharedShelf!

No, your story didn't bore me to death - how could it?
Sometimes the right book just comes at the right time, and The Beauty Myth now came to you at the right time.

179584 Kate, you are not overreacting, it takes small steps first to implement a system. Therefore it also are the small things that help implement and reinforce a system.

179584 Change, however small, is on its way:)
