Well, it's definitely huge. I mean, she spoke in front of the UN, not many people can actually say that. And she has her heart on the right place, as the saying goes.

I actually have that on the radar for quite a bit of time now and I will definitely check it out sooner or later.
P.S.: I think it's awesome that you've None of the Above, if you want, drop me a PM.

Badges would help, yep. I was wondering for a long time now if I am the only one in my city or not.

I think both of them are really good, they get the point across....

Liberal feminism sees the roots of gender inequality in social and cultural explanations. One of the earliest liberal feminists was John Stuart Mill who demanded in his essay "The Subjection of Women" the legal and political equality including the vote for women (as far as I remember he lived in the 1700s, but you might wanna proofcheck that, he was an economist who had some pretty interesting concepts regarding economics)
Liberal feminism does not see the submission of women as part of a bigger system or a bigger structure. It focuses on many sole factors, such as sexism and discrimination against women. It concentrates on putting equal chances and the same rights for women into law. Therefore, they are a lot more moderate than other forms of feminism, who demand a downfall of the existing system.
Critics say that while they have improved the situation of women in the last century, they have mistaken the systemic oppression of women in society. Since liberal feminists only focused on single disadvantages, they would only draw a certain aspect of the picture of the gender difference.
Now about intersectional or postmodern feminism(don't ask me where the second name comes from, I think it's weird to give that name to a certain time period altogether):
Much like black feminism postmodern feminism doubts whether there is one homogenous basis of identity and experience of all women. Some thoughts of this can be found in the works of Simone de Beauvoir, among others. Postmodern feminists (or intersectional feminists) do not say that there is one universal category of "woman" or one big theory. Therefore they refuse to accept explanations that are based on the principles of class, race or patriarchy, because they say it is essentialist. They accept many different point of views as equally legitimate in their validity. The "difference" of groups is being celebrated, it is positive because it symbolizes plurality, variety, differences and openness. The acknowledgement of difference is central.
They have especially concentrated on deconstructing the masculine language and masculine worldview. They say that masculine would have been classified "normal" and feminine "abnormal" by men.
Now, it is important to know that these are some of the main types (for lack of a better word) of feminism in the 20th century. In recent years this segregation of some kind has somewhat lost its meaning, since new theories have emerged, that explain it in a different way.
I hope I could help you with this, and I am really glad I didn't sell my Introduction to Sociology book, if only to look up the different types of feminism;)
And one more thing: Don't be sorry; I wish I would have been this far when I was 14, you're doing great!

:) Now that would be nice to come across! Other people from OSS!

I would say that Emma's feminism is liberal feminism, or intersectional feminism, but more liberal feminism, from what I've seen her doing in the last two years...

my name is Nadine and I live and study in Austria. I never considered myself a feminist when I was younger, but when I started my undergrad. degree I became more aware of the topic.

It's not easy to see myself as such when I am struggling quite a lot with my own baggage.
No, we were taking care of the pond, and some reed needed to be taken out, and I didn't even give it a real try, man, still bugs me.

If only he knew how much I could enhance my strength when I would change a thing or two.

Hello Timea!
Is anyone up for a meet-up again? Maybe in September before university starts again?

I personally loved the choice this month and, disregarding some aspects that I wasn't particularly happy with, found it to be eye-opening.

I came across this worpress post today and it really gives me some thoughts, and not positive ones at that:
(EBM 3. Quartal 2017)
Let's see how I can sum this up:
It's about bills that health insurances need to pay regarding treatment of the sex. So far so good. It says that such bills can be charged with the new regulation if there are primary sex organs of both sexes present such as in intersex or in transgender after sex reassignment surgery (such as a prostate, testes or ovaries being evident.) That bugs me, but more on that below.
Next thing: Without "X" for indesignated sex on the health card the service needs to be annotated with a nationwide additional labelling and as justification the ICD-10 code for intersexuality and transsexuality needs to be stated.
Now, first I thought: Okay, so there is a new regulation and I really thought it would have made things better, but it didn't really.
Okay, I start with the primary sex characteristics.
First, HRT does not necessarily affect the primary sex characteristics, some do, but not all, and therefore I hate that statement enough already. Second, now do forgive me if I err, but as far as I know a sex reassignment surgery normally only leads to having sex organs of one sex, not both.
The next thing that really bugs me is this:
Why, oh why, did they come up wih the "X" for all intersex peole after a certain date in 2013 again? WHY? And then, why is it that there needs to be made an extra entry with transsexuality/intersexuality?
I hate labelling by others, I mean, look up what the Nazis did to us and then you will understand. Being intersex is not a disease, it's a variation.
Human, some need PAP smears, some need prostate screenings, some need mammographies and some of us need all of these! Get over it, act according to what a human needs, not what the sex binary dictates they need.
Which reminds me of the fact that I know intersex persons who've been told they cannot switch hormones because of their civil status. Human, I better stop for now, this annoys the crap out of me.

I am proud to introduce to you the new card you will find here:
