179584 Happy Christmas and Happy New Year!

and lots of books to read!
179584 I was listening to this radio show the day before yesterday:
https://soundcloud.com/native-america...

Listen to it - it will teach you a lot.

So many say that there is only male and female, man and woman. Well, not true. Native Americans and First Nations know this since time immemorial.

Also, I wanna share this thread with you:

But this also is a good thing. It shows us that nothing is set in stone. Which is a good thing again, because we can change it.:)

Just one question? Why "misogyny"? Or do you mean because many people still see them as women, although they are men?

179584 So I don't know if you've heard about Net Neutrality yet... I hope you did!

If the internet as it is right now is important to you (which it should be),

then sign this change.org petition:
https://www.change.org/p/save-net-neu...

For the people in the US:
contact Congress, contact your senators:
either here:
https://www.battleforthenet.com/
or here directly:
504-09 (that will send a fax to your representatives from a bot, I heard it is super easy to use as it gives you all the instructions that you need)
and in case 504-09 doesn't work because of overload:
202-335-4008

please, we still have time, let's do what we can to save the internet that we know today so that it is still there in the future!

For once, let us use our power of being so many!

First, I think, you need to distinguish between countries - the Seneca Falls Convention was in the 1860s in the US, in the State of New York. I don't know where the British Empire stood concerning women's rights and the fight for those during WWI.

For my home country, Austria, I don't know anything regarding the time period of 1914-1918 in regards to women's rights (only that women got the vote in 1918, after the war, so I think there must have been some activity during the war).

Concerning the abortion I would say the following:
It was a time of war, a bigger and more atrocious war than the world has ever seen (and that led to the fall of three empires, so it had a huge impact on Europe). Furthermore, the ideal of a woman was very different from today, and the Church a force that you obeyed (especially here in Austria), and considering the stance of the church on abortion, then the fact that millions of people were dying either on the battlefield or because of the Spanish flu, and the ideal that a woman has to have children, rather soon, and a male heir as well, I can understand why her friends shunned her for the abortion. (I'm not saying abortions didn't happen, in German we even had a word for that; but I think that it was especially the circumstance of war that led them to this - how can you end an expected life when so many people die?)

But that's just my two cents, I would love to hear from others.
179584 Bringing this topic back again.

I think it is good to remember that captions not only help D/deaf people, because in case your speakers don't work, or you can't have any sound on, etc, you can still watch a movie or a video.

Captions...
bring me to my next topic:
One of my friends is visibly impaired, but he can still read... which made me aware of the continuum of "blindness". Now I write any articles in bold and with a font that is easily readable.

For people who cannot speak... they normally can express themselves via typing, that shouldn't be a problem.

And if somebody is dyslexic, well... then it is our job to get it right.

What is important is to realise that there are many disabilities, visible and invisible ones, and that they impact the individual to a different extent. Not only people in wheelchairs are disabled, so are many others.
What is important is to look at the disabilities that your community has to deal with, and I think here on OSS, that are mostly people who visibly impaired, hard of hearing/D/deaf(when we link videos, which does happen, every so often) and dyslexic people. I think these are the main issues so to speak that we have to deal with when it comes to disabilities.

Another barrier that we face of course is that many people have English as their second language, with varying degrees of fluency, which is why I say as well that we need to focus on books that have been translated to other languages. But then this was the case quite a lot yet, so I can't quarrel about that.

179584 Definitely Harry Potter (you will get something new out of them
every time you read them), then The Hunger Games (made me cry on a bus, so yes, they really pulled me away), then of course The Chronicles of Narnia (I read the last book in one night, record), I also read Eragon and yes, they are really huge bacons, as we say in German (around 850 pages each, 4 books), but they are SO GOOD!

Yes, that would make sense and we also need one ministry solely for women's issues, I think. I fear too that we have a backlash against women's politics ahead of us. Just listen to what they want to do and you wonder whether that is the same party that says it.
Well, we have to stand up and do something about it, and so maybe the petition came right that the right time. Do they have a date set up for it yet, I haven't heard/seen/read anything about it yet.

179584 It's me again!

The Women's March Global is doing a Thunderclap at December 10, 12PM CET (that's GMT+1) to raise awareness about the slave trade in Libya.

Decemer 10 is International Human Rights Day. What is really nice that they send you a reply to thank you for your support. Again, you can do this with Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter, and at this time all the accounts who signed up for it will send out one message.

Wait, what? A women's ministry? Didn't we have one until now? Or am I completely off the road and always thought we had? Well, with the new changes they are thinking about concerning ministries nothing really shocks me anymore.
