168065 Greetings Thursday Book Groupers !!

I know that some of you have found this book a little.... how to say... boring, but I am looking forward to talking about it with you anyway and hearing why it was boring or whether there was anything that you particularly liked :)

Also - what kind of cake would we like? Or biscuits? Remember, you can always BYOB (B being biscuits, of course) and take them away afterwards.

Looking forward to tomorrow,

Laura

168065 Greetings all!

How are we on this fine and sunny Tuesday?

I was checking the Reading Groups for Everyone site and there are a few tempting offers on the go for this month. Is there anything in particular anyone fancies? There are a mix of fiction, non-fiction, historical, quirky, and serious. Please visit the link below to have a look see:

Dr James Barry - A Woman Ahead of Her Time by Michael du Preez The Memory Stones by Caroline Brothers The Lesser Bohemians by Eimear McBride The Past by Tessa Hadley The Summer That Melted Everything by Tiffany McDaniel The Girl in the Glass Tower by Elizabeth Fremantle How to Write Like Tolstoy A Journey into the Minds of Our Greatest Writers by Richard Cohen Britt-Marie Was Here by Fredrik Backman

I have a few ideas of what I would like to go for, but let me know what you think : )

168065 Greetings, all,

that's the new Eowyn Ivey on catalogue now, so I have begun the request list.

I am really rather looking forward to it :) It shouldn't be too long before it is in :)

168065 Hi Angela,

welcome back! It's lovely to hear from you. Yes, the Wednesday Group will be reading The Husband's Secret for discussion in August, and the Thursday group will be reading Day of The Triffids. If you have time and want to take part in the Himself focus group, but haven't yet read the book, we have a few copies available if you're able to pop in to collect :)

See you next week :)

Best wishes,

Laura

168065 If you reference that it was an advanced copy courtesy of Canongate then possibly should be fine - but if in any doubt wait until next week to get the official nod. I am sure they will be happy if the reviews are positive!

168065 Greetings, all. For those of you who may not be able to come along to the Focus Group meeting on July 7th, here are the questions that we were asked to consider as we read the book. Please post some of your answers in the comments below in order that I can pass them on to the lovely people at Canongate:

THE BOOK:
* Your overall view of the book. Did you like it, or not? What did you/didn't you like?
* Would you recommend it?
* Who was your favourite character and why?
* Does the author's work remind you of any other similar authors?
* What genre would you put this book in?
* If you had to sum the book up in one sentence, what would you say?

THE JACKET AND COPY:
* What do you think about the current jacket? (It is similar to the proof copy that you have) Does it reflect the content?
* Does the blurb on the jacket give enough information about the content of the book? Do you think anything is missing or confusing?
* Did you have any expectations before reading? Consider the title, the cover and anything else you may have thought/known about the book before you read it. How did these expectations change as you read on (if at all?)

GENERAL:
* Where do you find out about new books to read?
* Do you see advertising for books? If so, where?

Many thanks,

Laura
