I read Farseer years ago when they first came out and enjoyed them. I apparently need to put some more Hobb on my reading list.
I just started
Traitor's Blade and am uncertain about it. The author writes really well, but I'm wondering if the 3 Musketeers style witty banter is going to get very old.

I've heard wonderful things about Steven Pressfield.

Welcome Mikos. You are in good company here.

Hi Dan. Fellow RPG player (both pen & paper and video games). I'm also a fan of the sword and sorcery genre. Sounds like you'll fit right in.

Welcome, One! I found Scourge of the Betrayer quite good and there is some mercenary company elements similar to The Black company.

After reading everything in the
The Ranger Quinn Colson series, I took a quick dip into sci fi with
Arkwright and really enjoyed it. Now I'm reading
Carter & Lovecraft and after a somewhat slow start it is really engaging.

Sharp Ends is in the Goodreads Giveaway now.

That would be awesome to see Abercrombie. I'll need to pick up Sharp Ends soon.

A friend of mine recently listened to Dragons of Autumn Twilight and found it didn't hold up to his teenage memory. How are you liking it, Steven?

Brittany, The Bloodsounder Arc was very much Grimdark, but fairly unique in my opinion. I'd say it kind of reminded me of The First Law books by Abercrombie in some respects with a group comprised like The Black Company by Cook.

I've not been on these boards enough lately, but I have been reading. I spent a long while reading the Blood Sounder Arc trilogy by Jeff Salyards
Scourge of the Betrayer is the first book.
I was slightly fantasied out after that series and picked up
The Ranger which is more a modern mystery/thriller/hardboiled type of novel. If you enjoyed the TV series Justified, this might be up your alley. It has a very similar setting to Harlen County.

I did a reread on The Lies of Locke Lamora and enjoyed it. I also tend to avoid rereads now, but used to do it all the time.
I read the Lord of the Rings Trilogy a bunch in high school and have read Fellowship and part of the Two Towers many times since. That's where I apparently lost interest.
Gemmel's "Legend" I read several times. I read the Chronicles of Amber a number of times. There's a Robert B. Parker Spenser novel, "Early Autumn" that I have read several times as it hits on a personal level.
I do not disagree that rereads reveal more and let you appreciate the author's work to a higher degree.

Welcome Jenna!

Re-reading Magician/Master has been on my list for a long while with the intention of continuing the series.

I've read books from 18 of the listed. I've completed or read 3+ of the series for 10 of them.

Ha! I see City of Stairs and Magician: Apprentice are now tied at 10 votes each.

I can understand why people stop on Black Company. The writing style is a bit different and doesn't really seem to mesh with a fantasy novel. Once I became acclimated to it, I ended up finishing the first novel and reading the next three.

Silvana, it did remind me of Croaker, except Arkamondos is not nearly as capable.

I just finished
Scourge of the Betrayer and really enjoyed it. Very grimdark and excellent writing. The point of view from a "bookish" scribe in the midst of hard core soldiers is also quite interesting.

Chris, I can totally see the Eternal Champion aspect. I'd never read Moorcock until after my (multiple) readings of Amber. That could also go for most of his family - especially Benedict.
