also interesting is what went on w..."There's a lot of publishers pissed off with Wylie this week.

Their report is a bit of BS. They actually announced that the Kindle sold more books than actual hardbacks. What the report didn't say is whether it was all ebooks combined that did this or just those that are available in hardback.
Obviously the sales of paperbacks is massive so there is no chance that ebooks outsold them. Further more this news was announced just a day or two before Amazon announced lower than anticipated quarterly sales figures.
It seems their announcement was an attempt to distract from their low earnings.

Here's an interesting essay by Gary Shteyngart about reading and how technology has changed our interactions. I've read Shteyngart's hilarious
Absurdistan but have not yet read his first novel, though I will be reading it soon.

I was surprised to find that there wasn't a thread devoted to KVJ. I saw his book Galapagos mentioned in an interview elsewhere and know that I have read it, only a year or two ago, but remember nothing about it.
This got me thinking about other 10 Vonnegut books that I have read and realized I remember next to nothing of them.
What gives? Does anyone else have this problem?
I don't seem to have this forgetting problem as badly with any other author. I wonder if it has to do with KVJ's writing, my reading or maybe my stupidity.

Well I just ordered the book, whether we read it as a group I'll be reading it in short order. It's nearly worth buying for the cover image alone.

I finished it a couple of weeks ago and stupidly failed to start a thread or write a review.
I will try to gather my thoughts once I get home tonight...

ya, i would be too. another faulkner and i'd likely jump off a cliff.

Dzanc Books released an alternative list. Check it out here:

It seems that the airline changed my flight so I will be arriving July 31st at 5:24pm.
I'm uncertain where I'm staying that night and how I'm getting out to the dork now that the mo-ho is outta commission.
I leave on July 8th at 11:30ish.

The SS Dorkapalooza (or a newer SS Dorkapalooza II) is essential to you JE. If you don't have one it would be like having a Martyn who didn't say/write 'fuck' or 'cunt' in his posts.

Now that's a classic Martyn rant!

It also appears that his undergrad thesis is going to be published.

Also a new NYT Article on the lack of flexibility of e-reader soft/hardware:

also, I recently downloaded (for free!) an e-reader app for my new phone and have downloaded two titles (again for free) from Project Gutenberg. Now whenever I am stuck waiting somewhere without a book I have a PKD story and treasure island to read.
There is enough content to read for free on Gutenberg that I will never have the need to buy an electronic edition of any book. My main method of consumption will always be through bound paper.

While I haven't had a chance to read this entire thread yet, I wanted to point out this article I read the other day about the future of publishing.

PKD's Exegesis is to be published. Two 350 page volumes are to be released from a reported 8,000 pages. I have no idea how it could be edited down to 700 pages.
