Hi Robyn, welcome to the group. It's gotten pretty sleepy in these parts lately but feel free to peruse or create some threads and cause some trouble.

Though I think we leave the evening of the 26th.

I just booked tickets for Katie and I. I'm flying in to Seattle on the 16th and headed down to Portland for the first leg of the trip.

If I am lucky I'll have the books unpacked this weekend which means I'll have my copy of GR back in hand.

Once I unpack my books I am going to start reading GR again, even if only a few pages a day. The only other Pynchon I've read so far is Lot 49.

It seems to me that picking a weekend at either the beginning or end would be good for most of us 9-5ers.

That should work for us! Once the dates are set we can start looking for flights.

Katie and I would be down for that as well.

I think babies do fly for free if they can sit in your lap

I think Katie and I can make it happen. Especially if it's at the end of July I think her school starts early-mid august.

So what are your reading goals this year? Not just a # like the GR Reading Challenge but what are you aiming to accomplish and why.
More contemporary books? More classics? Particular geographic areas? Reading/finishing the entire works of an author? Or maybe none of that is important to you?
I'm going to stew on it for a bit before posting exactly what I hope to accomplish this year.

I don't know how I missed this thread. Probably because of moving and all that.
Over the last couple of years I've gotten into the habit of reading a few graphic novels a year and have encountered a few pretty good ones. Mo, is generally my go-to person for recommendations.
I don't know if Rat Queens would be something you'd like or not. Based on reading the blurb in the link and some of the reviews I'd be hesitant to try it myself.
I started with a couple of comics about intellectuals that I found to be pretty entertaining. The were
Logicomix: An Epic Search for Truth and
Feynman and really liked
Asterios Polyp.
That being said, I often find the story telling lacking when compared to a traditional novel but still find them a ton of fun since they are such acts of creativity.
I have a few more I can mention or recommend but I don't want to steal Mo's thunder.

Hey guys. I'm sitting in a car with Katie as she drives us down to tucson. I've been distracted and stressed for the last few months with the selling of our house (we need to be out the day before thanksgiving). Luckily, we've found a cool place to rent and hopefully I'll be able to return to reading soon. I just finished Amy Pohler's audiobook which was ok and worked well given my inability to focus on the written word. Oh and I've read a few Carver short stories. I hope to be hoisting a few drinks back in a couple of hours. I'll be sure to toast all of you.

Nope I've never heard of him before either.

I also look forward to the conversation in 2017.

Does she have a new book out?

I did read it! And we haven't talked about it. I do t think we really can until you're about halfway through.

I'm not drunk, but I am following along. I've never read HM but have always meant to. So get that thread started and inspire me!

That's a good idea. Make sure when it's created to leave the folder section blank.
I think I have turned against the idea of many distinct buckets for organization. I think we should just have two General and Group Reads related.
