I think looking at good historical fiction for this category is fair.
Pilgrim's Wilderness: A True Story of Faith and Madness on the Alaska Frontier by Tom Kizzia

I read this last year and found it to be very gripping. I don't read a lot of this sort of book, but the specifics interested me, especially the Alaskan wilderness aspect. We all know Alaska is still pretty wild in places, but dang! This was totally out of hand. The control he wielded over the family was sad, but I suppose that's how sociopaths work.I recommend it.
Rita wrote: "This book I written in verse and is absolutely beautiful! I think it would lead to wonderful discussion in the classroom."Moving this book to the "orphans" folder too. I think you already posted for this book - let me know where you'd like it to go!
Rita wrote: "I love these two very complicated main characters! Wonderful book!"Hi Rita,
Which category do you want this book to be in? None of your posts seem to be going into the category folders - are you using the mobile app? It doesn't work well for putting new posts in folders. Please check the "orphans" folder and let me know about your other books.
Thanks!

Let me know and I'll happily move it for you. Cheers!
Melissa wrote: "Thanks so much for taking the time to create and maintain the group. It's been really fun seeing what everyone else is reading. I've added quite a bit to me "to-read" list because of it."You're very welcome! I can put in a thanks for everyone that help make this an enjoyable, low maintenance group! It is really fun to see what people are reading, I agree.
Cheers!

Greetings! I hope everyone is having fun with the challenge. It's great to see how many members we have, and that we're from all over the world.A few of you have posted books, but not assigned them to a folder - they just end up at the top of the discussion in the "general" folder. I'd like to keep that folder empty, so from now on after I ask you to clarify which category you want the book in, I'm going to move them to the "Orphans" folder. I'll move books to their proper homes when you notify me, or you can edit them yourself if you want.
As far as I know the mobile app is still a problem for adding books to folders.
Read on!

Hi Beth - which category do you want this book to go in? Thanks!
Betsy wrote: "Before I came across this book I had no idea these things even happened! Granted it was a bit before my time but I live in a very small town, you wouldn't think something like this would be forgott..."I'm going to move this into the "set in my hometown" category, and delete the duplicate post. Cheers!
Betsy wrote: "I've never been a reader of Christian books before. My friend recommended this one and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Her writing is almost poetic, very beautiful book. :)"I'm going to move this to the "recommended by a friend" category, and delete the duplicate post. Are you using the mobile app? It seems that it doesn't work if you want to put your books into a folder. I'm happy to move them for you!
Betsy wrote: "I keep seeing this author popping up so I thought I'd give it a shot. Turned out to be a great read, with a mystery wrapped up in a mystery and a nice little twist. I really enjoyed it :)"Hi Betsy - did you want this one to go into the mystery category? I'm happy to move it there, or wherever you would like.
I'm not sure which category this one might fit into, but I just came across this book in a list of "50 books that will make you more interesting."
This is David Shafer's first book, so he will be new to all that choose to read it!It was a page turner - I got sucked in and found it hard to put down this weekend. But yet...
The end was a cliffhanger of sorts, so I guess that means there will be a sequel. The story was clever, funny, and creepy (cyber spying creepy) - all things that I like. I'm interested enough that I suppose I'll read the next one, but by the time it comes out I'm not sure that I'll care. I liked the characters though, and wonder what will happen next.
And Ned!!! What the heck. I need some answers.
I would think you could just work outward until you find a book set in a place close-ish to you.Or, a book set in a place you have lived could work.

So interesting, and even if you're not into rowing Brown managed to write the races to feel edge of your seat exciting.
