I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you can find a way to celebrate her life safely both now and come spring.

152458 You can always look through the prettiest cover on your tbr thread. I've gone through and disagreed with a few people's choices. ;) Same as some that are listed in this thread aren't ugly to me.

Anybody has nice suggestions for those?"

So this series is all set in Boston. The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen I used this book for medical thriller this year and enjoyed it.

152458 Fable by Adrienne Young would work. It's not 100% outside but at least over half I'd say.

152458 I'm going to do the 2017 challenge as well next year and I'm needing help finding a book with an unreliable narrator. Any suggestions?

152458 Merry Christmas Eve! I'm very hyper because I decided to bake sugary things this morning instead of eating breakfast, you have to taste things for quality control you know. ;) Anyway I truly hope whether you're celebrating a holiday or not that you are safe and healthy.

Finished Reading:

Fable ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This would fit magical realism and set outside. (view spoiler) A great survival story with a resilient main character. It's a nice change of pace for the main character to be adept at free diving.

Madame Bovary ⭐⭐
This was dull. Lot's of detail no story. I had to finish this because I needed to read a book that was 100 or more years older than me.

To Kill a Kingdom ⭐⭐
It's a high 2 star but still a dud. The premise was great, dark retelling of the little mermaid where Ariel and Eric are both murderous. The book started great, the two characters are set to kill each other over war between sirens and humans. However the middle dragged and dragged.

Ooh I think I prefer gift cards just because then I know I want it taking up limited space in my shelves. But a gift is a gift and I appreciate books even if I won't read it. You can always trade them with someone else. The best book someone bought for me christmas, that wasn't on a wishlist, was Twilight. I was given it at a time when I didn't read, childhood, and I forgot I owned it, until my sister wanted to read it because the movie was coming out. Low and behold I owned it. She made me read it, I loved it, I turned into a bookworm.

I completely agree. The ending was unexpected.

152458 @Nadine didn't the book have the five characters looking into a mystery with ties to the previous student/teachers?

That's sounds really cool. What a great idea that author had... or do I live under a rock and that's a common marketing thing?

Congratulations! I'm glad you're home and on the mend. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I think Australia makes you opt out of donating organs. I wish more countries including mine did that. Speaking of I need to make an appointment to go donate blood.
Also as long as you have one 5 star from what you've read that's what matters.

152458 Happy check-in! You know when you're reading a good book when you struggle to read the check-ins and post instead of reading your book. ;)
Anyway I too love the Snow Glow, especially at night. It's equally pretty and creepy. I'm so not ready for Christmas and I'm stressing about it.

Antiracist Baby ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A good picture book that rhymes multi syllable words. At the back there are discussion questions to help parents start explaining social justice and its importance.

Legendborn ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This might be the best/favourite book I've read this year. (I've read over 200) This is how you update legends and myths.

Stranger Planet ⭐⭐
So this was available on overdrive and I didn't notice at the time that it was the sequel to the book that won the goodreads best comic/graphic novel award. I really wished the any of the other graphic novels I read and loved this year would have won the category.

The Far Side Gallery 2 ⭐⭐
I've finished this book and can only think of one comic that was awesome. The rest are forgettable.

House of Salt and Sorrows ⭐⭐
This was mostly dull and uneventful until the last 20% which was enjoyable.

Deadly Class, Volume 6: This is Not the End ⭐⭐⭐
This series is very dark and rather depressing but they always end in a way that makes me want to read the next one.

I'm really glad to hear that your mom's recovery is going well. That would be wonderful for her to be free from hospital so soon.
152458 I also predominantly borrow books from the library. I want to keep this a challenge so hopefully I get books for Christmas that I can not read until 2021. Although I have a few books free from the library right now but the John Scalzi book I grabbed without reading the synopsis turned out to be a plague book... so back to hoping for books for Christmas. :)

Midnight Sun could be stretched into the fresh start/do over prompt. It's a redo of Twilight with a new narrator. Also It's a redo because the author had wrote Edward's perspective and fans got ahold of it and it stalled her writing it.

152458 Charlotte wrote: "Would The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue work? Based on the description it seems like it could fit."

Addie LaRue definitely works for this prompt. The entire premise of the book stems from Addie wanting a different life leading her to make a deal.

152458 Yeah I'm realizing I've blocked just how much the word corona has shown up in what I've read this year. Whether people are drinking it or it's used as a descriptor, like in the book I'm currently reading. House of Salt and Sorrows
