Okay, champions of the challenged book! what's been banned recently?!

I think the spirit of the prompt is a book that's been banned in any state or country."

I thought this read as a very US-centric prompt. Glad you at least expanded it to include "country." My immediate interpretation was "US state." Glad this was one of the few more diverse prompts!

152458 Too bad this wasn't worded better or just not a prompt at all. Personally, I will be reading any newly released book in 2023 and counting it. I guess as long as each person can interpret for themselves, it works. I was just disappointed I guess...

152458 I'm sorry, but I must admit I was appalled at the lack of diplomacy (IMO, respect) in this wording. "FAT"?!? With all the other word choices available the old (and to me derogatory) word FAT was the one selected? Glad you were the one posting this, Nadine, as I would have been very tempted to use a different term...

Anyway, I read Dumplin' last year and thought it was excellent! Then I was extremely disappointed in the movie by comparison, so if you have only watched the movie I would highly recommend the book as much more enjoyable, IMO!

Big Summer is a romance, but also more complex than that as it includes a mystery as well...

I loved that one!

152458 The Shape of Water by Guillermo del Toro for some fantasy! I don't know why both the movie and book appealed to me so much, but they do!

Ha! For once I was taking this prompt a bit too seriously. I was only considering IRL friends! What?!? I'll create a Listopia for this year's prompt and include these links in the initial posting! Thanks, Nadine!!
152458 I have recreated the Listopia and the link is working for me, but don't hesitate to let me know if it quits working again! :)

Thanks for letting me know. I checked each one as I linked it...but who knows? :(

152458 This is the February Monthly Group Read discussion for The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon. This book can be used to fulfill prompt #43 A book that takes place entirely in one day. This prompt was selected in honor of Groundhog Day, a North American tradition observed in the US and Canada on February 2! This derives from a Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day and sees its shadow due to clear weather, it will retreat to its den, and winter will continue for 6 more weeks! If it does not see its shadow due to cloudiness, spring will arrive early! Per Wikipedia: Though this tradition remains popular in the 21st century, studies have found no consistent association between a groundhog seeing its shadow and the subsequent arrival of spring-like weather. (Just so you know this tradition hasn't been proven to be a scientifically reliable predictor! :))

Katrina is the "knowledgeable navigator" who has graciously volunteered to lead the discussion this month! THANK YOU, KATRINA!

JUNE #22 A book with a queer lead
In honor of “Pride Month” as declared by US Presidents Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden. (Also acknowledged in a 2019 tweet by Donald Trump.) Per Wikipedia this originated to commemorate the Stonewall Riots which occurred at the end of June in 1969. Nov 29, 2022 08:13AM

152458 I like this!

Agreed! Way too personal for a Listopia, though I could probably create a huge one for a list of possibilities! :)

So many from which to choose! I don't know which one I will use for this prompt, but assume there will be many from which to select as I read throughout 2023! It always seems that I read quite a few books at least ONE year later than I intended! LOL :)
