147920 I'm done with my first for this month: The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey. My rating: 5/5
This is THE BEST BOOK I've read so far this year! I'd highly recommend it to anyone who wants to read a decent book with spectacular characterization and totally awesome world building.

147920 Hello everyone,

I hope you had fun reading for June's challenge.
[If you're new, then please don't bother worrying about anything. You can join us for this month.] This month’s genres are Dystopia + Graphic Novels (for Graphic Novels any genre will do. Even lightly illustrated novels will do.)
You can either do any one of these genres or both of them. It's entirely up to you. If a book comes under the sub-genre of these genres, however remotely, then it can be included as well.
So, basically, there are absolutely no limitations. Read what you want to (in the broader sense of the genres.)

Here are the definitions for each genre:

Dystopia: Dystopia is a form of literature that explores social and political structures. It is a creation of a nightmare world - unlike its opposite, Utopia, which is an ideal world. Dystopia is often characterized by an authoritarian or totalitarian form of government. It often features different kinds of repressive social control systems, a lack or total absence of individual freedoms and expressions, and a state of constant warfare or violence. Many novels combine both Dystopia and Utopia, often as a metaphor for the different directions humanity can take in its choices, ending up with one of the two possible futures.

Graphic Novel:A graphic novel is a narrative work in which the story is conveyed to the reader using sequential art in either an experimental design or in a traditional comics format. The term is employed in a broad manner, encompassing non-fiction works and thematically linked short stories as well as fictional stories across a number of genres.

Here's a quick summary of the levels:

Level 1: Casual Reader: 1 book (easy)
Level 2: Frequent Reader: 2 books (moderate)
Level 3: Bookworm: 3 books (mildly strenuous)
Level 4: Bibliophile: 4 books (strenuous)
Level 5: Bookiopath: 5 books or more (challenging)

Please go ahead and announce your March to-read books along with the level you are targeting for.

All the very best and happy reading!

147920 Wow, you guys are doing great!

I started with a mythology book, but had a hard time getting into it :( I can't DNF it as it was sent to me by a friend, so I'll leave it be for now. I'll try to read it after a month or two.

I read On writing again this month, so I'll count that. :)

I'll be starting with another non-fiction on writing in a day or two, so I'll have two books for this month :)
Jun 04, 2016 09:36AM

147920 @Dagny Thanks! And sorry, my bad. I typed it wrong everywhere. It was supposed to be Religion and not Regional... :)

Actually, I just received a book from a friend who's a bigtime author in India - Yama's Lieutenant by A.C. It's a mythological book and I guess I can read it for this month! Seems like I'll participate this month after all... :D

147920 And I'm back... God, I feel like a superwoman one minute here and the other minute there... puff...

Anyway... I'll be absent this month as I have JuNo but I'll drop by to check out what you guys are reading!

And again, thanks a ton @Dagny for creating the thread <3

147920 Hello everyone, [Thanks Dagny for creating this thread!]

I hope you had fun reading for May's challenge.
[If you're new, then please don't bother worrying about anything. You can join us for this month.] This month’s genres are Non-Fiction + Mythological/Religion.

Non-Fiction: Non-fiction is an account or representation of a subject which is presented as fact. This presentation may be accurate or not; that is, it can give either a true or a false account of the subject in question. However, it is generally assumed that the authors of such accounts believe them to be truthful at the time of their composition. Note that reporting the beliefs of others in a nonfiction format is not necessarily an endorsement of the ultimate veracity of those beliefs, it is simply saying that it is true that people believe that (for such topics as mythology, religion). Non-fiction can also be written about fiction, giving information about these other works.

Mythological: The term mythology can refer to a body of myths or to any traditional story. A myth is a sacred narrative explaining how the world and humankind came to be in their present form. The main characters in myths are usually gods or supernatural heroes.

Religion: Religion is a cultural system that establishes symbols that relate humanity to spirituality and moral values. Many religions have narratives, symbols, traditions and sacred histories that are intended to give meaning to life or to explain the origin of life or the universe. They tend to derive morality, ethics, religious laws or a preferred lifestyle from their ideas about the cosmos and human nature.

Here's a quick summary of the levels:

Level 1: Casual Reader: 1 book (easy)
Level 2: Frequent Reader: 2 books (moderate)
Level 3: Bookworm: 3 books (mildly strenuous)
Level 4: Bibliophile: 4 books (strenuous)
Level 5: Bookiopath: 5 books or more (challenging)

All the very best and happy reading!
