Dark Matter sounds really good, Dagny, plus it's getting really popular right now on Goodreads. I missed to request it from NetGalley, so I'll look forward to knowing what you think about it. :)

Hope you'll have fun reading this series! :)

So good to know that you feel this way, Cheryl. Reading and discussing books with others is such a joy and we just want everyone to experience it. You are a great addition to this little family and I just want to thank you for your awesome recommendations and active participation!!! <3

I'm glad you liked the definition, Dagny. I wish I wasn't as obsessed with genres as I am turning out to be. I'm just trying to get rid of this habit by trying to keep 2017's challenge as a super casual one. :)

Yep, it totally does!

My books are:
1. Dune Messiah

2. The Collector's Book Of Science Fiction

I read Dune for Sci-Fi month in 2016 (or was it 2016?) anyway, I absolutely loved it and hence, decided to read the second part for 2017's Sci-Fi month. As for the second book above, I stumbled across it while browsing my usual bookstore last week. What really caught my attention was that it contains all the short classic Sci-Fi stories, and when I read the names of Author Conan Doyle and Jules Verne as two of the many authors, I was sold.

First of all a very Happy New Year to you all! Let's kick-start 2017 with some amazing and out-of-the-word Science Fiction reads.
There are absolutely no limits so you can interpret this genre in its broader sense and include other similar genres and/or subgenres that you feel might have a wee bit of similarity with the main genre. You can also include books that are not particularly centered around the main genre but has its components or elements somewhere in the story.
The main intent of this challenge is to incorporate different kinds of books and genres in our normal reading routine to make the experience more fun and entertaining. Please do not lose yourself in the technicalities as we all know how literary genres can be confusing.
If you have any doubts or questions, then post them below and we'll be happy to answer/discuss them.
Here is the DEFINITION for this month's genre:
Science-Fiction: Science fiction (often shortened to sci-fi or scifi) is a genre of speculative fiction, typically dealing with imaginative concepts such as futuristic science and technology, space travel, time travel, faster than light travel, parallel universes, and extraterrestrial life. Science fiction often explores the potential consequences of scientific and other innovations, and has been called a "literature of ideas." It usually eschews the supernatural, and unlike the related genre of fantasy, historically science fiction stories were intended to have at least a faint grounding in science-based fact or theory at the time the story was created, but this connection has become tenuous or non-existent in much of science fiction.
SCIENCE-FICTION ELEMENTS INCLUDE:
• A time setting in the future, in alternative timelines, or in a historical past that contradicts known facts of history or the archaeological record.
• A spatial setting or scenes in outer space (e.g. spaceflight), on other worlds, or on subterranean earth.
• Characters that include aliens, mutants, androids, or humanoid robots and other types of characters arising from a future human evolution.
• Futuristic or plausible technology such as ray guns, teleportation machines, and humanoid computers.
• Scientific principles that are new or that contradict accepted physical laws, for example, time travel, wormholes, or faster-than-light travel or communication.
• New and different political or social systems, e.g. utopian, dystopian, post-scarcity, or post-apocalyptic.
• Paranormal abilities such as mind control, telepathy, telekinesis (e.g. "The Force" in Star Wars.)
• Other universes or dimensions and travel between them.
FOR BETTER UNDERSTANDING, here's a list of Science-Fiction Subgenres:
• Cyberpunk
• Time Travel
• Alternate History
• Military Science-Fiction
• Super Human
• Apocalyptic and Post-Apocalyptic
• Space Opera
• Space Western
• Social Science Fiction
• Climate Science Fiction
• Mundane Science Fiction
• Biopunk

Wow! That was an incredible bio! Thanks a lot for sharing it Dagny. I just read his 4 lines bio given in this book and The Obsidian Chamber.
I guess I now have a new favorite author. I absolutely love his writing and his sense of humour.

I'm so going to read the one you've mentioned. I had no idea that true adventure stories can be so much better than the fictional ones!

It is an AMAZING book and I don't want to be done with it ever! I am reading 2 chapters every day because it is so good that I don't feel like reading it in one go and being done with it. It is one of those books you feel like enjoying a chapter at a time.
If you like real adventure stories, do check out this book!

Sorry to hear that, Karen. I'm not a huge Sci-Fi fan, but last year I read Dune for this challenge and I was hooked! As Cheryl said, you might find something that you might find interesting.

Next year I'll try and do a classic audiobook every month.
