~~~~~~~~~~In fact, the Julie in question was NOT doing fine. The two toddlers were trying her patience. After all, one can only deal with two havoc-wreaking toddlers for so long. She was getting ready to blow.
All day, Brian had been pretending he was a ninja turtle, and was having a blast. He kept jumping out from behind things and scaring the heck out of poor Julie.
Little Janie wanted to play, too, so she decided to tear all the cushions off the couch and make a castle. Then, sitting safely in her tower, she declared herself a princess and needed a prince to come and save her from the witch who was going to boil her hones and eat her liver.
Brian gave up being a ninja turtle and decided to be a prince. he tried to save his sister, but the couch cushions couldn't support their collected weights, and the "tower" came tumbling down, along with Janie and Brian.
Then Julie had to rescue them from the "suffocating cave-in" that caved-in because "two workers hit the wrong rock."
Julie then became the center of attention again, with both children climbing up her legs begging for a piggy-back ride. And once they got their piggy-back rides.... It just went on and on.
Finally, Julie had had enough. She locked each in their own separate bedroom, and went up to her's for a nap.
~~~~~~~~
Sure enough, there he was, looking crisp and formal in a suit and tie, a serious look on his face. Lapis almost didn't recognize him, he was so different."Nice," Maggie commented.
Lapis shook her head and put a finger to her lips. Suddenly, she had a thought.
"I wonder what Julie's doing right now," She said absently, her attention briefly deterred, "I bet she's doing fine, though. Brian and Janie aren't too big of a job."
~~~~~~~~By the time they reached their stop, Maggie had cooled down a little, and as she stepped off the bus, she handed Mr. Douglas a crisp $20 bill, and Lapis could just hear her say softly, "Don't you go getting into any trouble, you hear?"
Mr. Douglas nodded viarously, and closed the doors after the two were off.
They were back in the parking lot of her dad's work, and Lapis looked around her uncomfortably. She felt awfully out in the open, and kept glancing behind her shoulder.
"Come on, we should get inside before somebody sees us," Maggie said, reading Lapis's thoughts exactly.
She nodded, and followed Maggie across the parking lot and into the large, fairly new building. It never looked so scary and imposing on Lapis's previous visits.
The stepped through the double doors, and into her father's buisness.
"Well then," Maggie said, "here we are!"
Lapis looked around her in awe. Everywhere she could see, men and women in tan uniforms were milling around, checking this and checking that, shouting, laughing, talking on cell phones, munching burgers...
Suddenly, Lapis's eyes widened and she ducked low behind a nearby shelf. Maggie followed hastily, and whispered, "What's wrong? What happened?"
"I saw my dad," Lapis whispered back, peeking over the shelf. Maggie did the same.
Oooooooo these are really good, Julane!!Do you think you could make a cover, any old thing, so I could get inspiration for another story?
If you aren't too busy with everyone else's, that would be great.. :)
