🔐 Welcome to Your Box.

The lock is real. The box is closed. But the two of you? You have the keys.

This is your personal team thread. Each week, you’ll receive a new reading prompt. Each of you will choose a book, read it, and post your reflection here. Once both reflections are posted, a key turns—and the box reveals a message just for you.

You must complete all 12 keyholes to open the box in Week 13.

You can use this thread for:
🔐 Weekly reflections
🔐 Talking with your partner
🔐 Celebrating when a new lock opens

Your first prompt arrives Sunday at 6pm CT. You’ll know it when you see it.

Until then: get to know each other. Decide who’s reading what.
And whatever you do… don’t open it yet.

📖 Weekly Check-In Format
When you finish your book, post the info below in this thread to let your partner know you're ready. Once both of you have posted your reflections, one of you should check in on the main thread to unlock your keyhole.

• Week: (e.g., Week 1)
• Book Title:
• Author:
• Page Count:
• Reflection: Your response to the week’s prompt.

🔎 Weekly Check-In Thread
This is how your keyhole gets unlocked.
No check-in, no click.

How to check in:
Just post your team name and a link to your team thread.

Example:
Team: The Locked Hearts
Thread: [insert link here]

Once I see your check-in, your message will appear in your thread—if you’ve earned it.

139735 I like the narrators, but these aren't usually my things so I'm having a hard time staying connected. My mom loved it and thought all of these were great.

139735 🧩 Prompt #9: Legacy / Escape
Type: Split Prompt
What this means:
This is a Split Prompt, so each of you will choose one side of the theme — one picks Legacy, the other chooses Escape. Your books will be different but thematically connected.
For this one:
Legacy might mean a character tied to family expectations, carrying on a tradition, facing a prophecy, or dealing with generational weight.
Escape could involve running from the past, resisting control, breaking patterns, or physically leaving a place, person, or situation.
📌 Once you’ve both finished reading, post your Story Stitch (your connection blurb) in the Check-In Thread to unlock your next prompt.
You define the chains — and how to break them. 🗝️🏃‍♀️

139735 Q: Do my partner and I have to read the same book?
A: Nope! You each choose your own book each week. The shared part is the prompt and reflection.

Q: What happens if we try to open the box early?
A: We don’t recommend it. The last team that tried hasn’t been seen since Week 6.

Q: How long does the book have to be?
A: Standard challenge rules apply—at least 100 pages unless otherwise stated in a prompt.

Q: Can I bribe the box?
A: You can try. It mostly likes snacks, old secrets, and poetry written at 3am.

Q: What if one of us forgets to post our reflection?
A: The keyhole stays locked. You can still read and respond later, but you won’t get that week’s message.

Q: My keyhole is glowing faintly. Is that normal?
A: Completely. You probably just said something meaningful.

Q: Can I read ahead?
A: You can, but don’t post ahead. The box only opens in real time. Also: the read date matters—not the start date.

Q: Can we switch partners partway through?
A: Only in rare cases. This is a 13-week partnership challenge, so try to stick it out. If something urgent comes up, contact the mods.

🕵️ Q&A: What Did You Just Sign Up For?

This is the place for all your questions—whether you're wondering how the box works, whether your audiobook counts, or if it's normal for the locks to hum at night. (It is. Probably.)

Ask anything. Answers may be helpful. Or unsettling. Hopefully both.
139735 📜 The Rules

You can’t unlock chaos without a little structure.

1. Standard Challenge rules apply.
That includes a minimum of 100 pages per book unless otherwise stated.

2. Read one book per person, per week.
You and your partner do not need to read the same book.

3. To unlock a keyhole, both teammates must post their reflection.
That’s how you earn your message for the week.
No reflection = no key. The lock stays sealed.

4. You may read ahead, but you may not post ahead.
Keys only turn when it’s time.
Read date is what matters—not your start date.

5. This is a partnership.
You’re expected to check in with your teammate each week.
Talk about your books. Compare your reflections. Ask strange questions.

6. Be kind. Be present. Be a little weird (optional but encouraged).
Follow Goodreads Challenge group rules and don’t ruin anyone’s box-opening moment.

📦 Do Not Open This Challenge
A 13-week partner reading experience. Something’s inside. You’re going to find out what.

A strange box has appeared. It has 12 locked keyholes. You’ve been paired with someone else who now shares your fate.

Each week, you’ll be given a prompt. You’ll both read a book. You’ll both reflect. If you both respond, something clicks into place—and one of the locks opens. What’s inside the box? We’re not entirely sure. But it’s moving.

You’ll read. You’ll talk. You’ll open something together.
Do not open this challenge alone.

🔑 What You’re Getting Into:
Signup Close: September 2nd, 2025
Teams Assigned: September 1st, 2025

The challenge runs from September 7th to December 6th, 2025

Flying solo? No problem—we’ll pair you with another brave reader.

Once teams are set, you’ll receive your personalized instructions, your locked box… and your first keyhole to stare into.

139735 sorry it's taking so long. I might try and find something else since it's slow going on jar city.
139735 You should just need a read date in your line. I'll take a look when I get home to see if I can find the issue if you did get one.

139735 🧩 Prompt #8: Order & Chaos

Type: Mirror Prompt

What this means:
This is a Mirror Prompt, so you and your partner will both work from the same theme — but take opposite approaches.

For this one:
One of you picks Order — a book where structure, control, tradition, or routine plays a central role. Think carefully planned systems, disciplined characters, or tidy resolutions.

The other picks Chaos — a book where things spiral, shift rapidly, or resist control. Think upheaval, unpredictable twists, or characters who reject the rules.

📌 Once you’ve both finished reading, post your Story Stitch (your connection blurb) in the Check-In Thread to unlock your next prompt.

Some stories follow the rules — others set them on fire. 🗂️🔥
