Her glass eyes caught the light, smile too fixed.
“Plants grow roots,” she whispered. “Roots creep. Roots spread. You chose well.”
Then she listened as you all spoke of comfort zones, of books you don’t like, of stories you’d rather not touch.
Her head tilted just a little too far.
“Don’t worry… the books you fear most are always the ones that find you anyway.”

Informal Poll: Once everyone is checked in, do you want me to provide the prompt early? You would have from the time I give the prompt until 5pm on Sunday the 14th to finish and check -in. It would be the only week I could provide it early...

I'm not a huge Sci-Fi fan, so I'll alternate those and other books this month. I can start with that one and then do hyperspeed (need for bachelor) after that.

Sorry.

This one felt more like an introduction to the Tallus/Diem series (now that I've read those ones). I was trying to figure out what they were going to do about the unsolved disappearance and then I remembered.
I just love the way Aslan loves Quaid. He gets him, he understand and that is just a great thing to have in a partner.

They glittered in the dark, threads of light twisting like a snare.
“Unfamiliar genres… ahh, the best ones. A necklace always tightens differently when you’re not used to wearing it.”
One jewel pulsed faintly, like a heartbeat.
“Yes, Jackie. Choose your India book. Slip it on. Just don’t be surprised if it never quite comes off again.”

Belle’s voice drifted through the silence, soft as velvet, sharp as glass.
“Ohhh… it isn’t the numbers that matter. It’s the choices. A secondhand book, a borrowed story, one you never meant to read…”
The Dead Man’s Dice rattled across the table, tumbling to a stop.
“Someone else rolled those bones before you. Someone else turned those pages first. You’re just picking up their game where they left off.”
Belle leaned closer, smile rusting at the edges.
“The toys aren’t angry yet, little one. But they do love an excuse.”

Chucky: “Yeah, well, I’m not thrilled about you either, sweetheart. But here we are.”
Then Alyana admitted she loves him.
Chucky grinned way too wide.
“Finally! Somebody gets it. You Fraidy Cats aren’t so bad after all.”
