Following
Infinity Alchemist by Kacen Callender
was a snooze. More details and depth to the characters, the world, and the magic might have kept my eyes open.2 Stars

The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett
is not a bad story, but it lacks backstory on the world/monsters. Plus I had the main mystery figured out pretty quickly.3 Stars

The Invocations by Krystal Sutherland
was good but could've been better with more details about the demons, world, and characters. The writing was also a little off, seeming to jump from past and present tense, and missing fs in the middle of words...
But it was a good and quick read.

The City of Stardust by Georgia Summers
I always hope a book will get better but this one didn't. There wasn't any real action or 'drama' so it was a slow read!

Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett
was a lot better than the first. The first one I skimmed, this one I read. If you like cozy and the TV show 'Bones', ('cause that MC is who this MC reminds me of) you might like this series.

Somewhere in the Deep by Tanvi BerwahI was expecting more from this one. The cover is cool, the title is grabbing, but the story was ok, and the execution didn't grab me.

Her Dark Wings by Melinda Salisbury
I did like this spin on the tale of Persephone, and I could relate to how Corey felt over Bree's betrayal, but it was flat storytelling.

A River of Golden Bones by A.K. Mulford started off slow, got a little interesting, then started the swirl down the drain. The cover is cool, though.2 Stars

The Dragons of Deepwood Fen by Bradley P. Beaulieu
was a disappointment. Not enough dragons, action, or world building.

Realm of Ice and Shadow by Leigh Stratton
A really good rewrite with attention paid to adding descriptions and color to the world, characters, and 'magic', could change this story from ehh to wow

The Darkness Before Them by Matthew Ward.
One of those I pushed through because it had potential, which it didn't live up to, and because I have other books from this author, which now I'm afraid they are going to ramble as this one did.

I was expecting more from this book but instead of creating a world of magic, it was mostly just a summary going from point A to Z
It could have been so much more!

I loved the idea of turning beautiful, harmless butterflies into monsters Swarm by Jennifer Lyle
started off great but slowed down as it became obvious what was going to happen. But I still liked it.

My first late review.
Dark Moon, Shallow Sea by David R. Slayton I had to force myself to finish, but it does have the makings of a good book, if the time was taken to fix it up.

A Season of Monstrous Conceptions by Lina Rather
was a disappointment. The blurb sounded so good, but all that goodness was given within the first 20 pages and then it rambled to the point it felt as if the pages were multiplying and it would never let me finish. 1 Star

Anne (eggcats) wrote: "Hi! I got a Netgalley account a few months back, and I already have 32 books I still have to read (I don't think my ratio will ever be higher than 30% lmao)! It seems almost like as soon as I revie..."If you didn't know, you can create lists on NetGalley. You can create them through the dashboard or on a book's page, under the book cover. It took me a few months before I made one, and now I have 5 though the one named "2023 Reading Order" will go bye-bye at the end of the year. I already have the list "2024 Reading order" started with 5 listed.
Those two and the 'Request 2024' list, I put in publication order and it is so handy to keep track right on there on NetGalley, and so I know if I over request for a month.
The other two lists I made are called "Interested" and "Thinking". The first I use to keep track of the books I'm really interested in reading especially if I'm not approved, and the thinking list is for those books I'm not quite sure about.
Sadly, Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig
wasn't as good as the first. I think it was from the lack of 'recap' so I was struggling to remember why I liked the first book.3 Stars
