128924 I haven't watched Crooked House yet--very busy right now!

I love the Father Brown TV shows as well. There is a very active Facebook page for it, if you are interested. Unfortunately, our local PBS station does not air them, and I have to watch the DVDs.

128924 I just got Crooked House from Netflix, but haven't watched it yet. It is supposed to be pretty good and somewhat faithful to the story. One of the few AC's not yet adapted for TV or movies.

128924 If you noticed, the name of each of the novellas starts with the next letter of the alphabet. First, Appleton, then Bennett, then on through the ABC's.

128924 I am very skeptical about this as well. Physically, he is not even remotely like Poirot, but then neither was Branagh. I didn't like Branagh in the role nor did I like his movie.

I find it hard to see this going well.

128924 I got the second book on Kindle yesterday. 99 Cents! It seems there are 17 or so of these!

May I suggest that we have two threads open for the book, one without spoilers (for those who've not finished) and one with them? That way, I won't forget what I've read before the second half starts.

Just a suggestion...

128924 I'll be fine with either one, but perhaps #2 Appleton might be nice for some continuity in the adventures.

128924 I am totally on board with Christie short stories.

128924 In addition to shorter books, we could also look at some short stories.

128924 I can go either way on the thought of suspending reads during the summer. I think it might end up disbanding things which would be very bad. I think the idea of reading some shorter things might make it easier for us with a lot of other reading on our plates (as well as being busier in the warmer months). At the very least, we should keep in touch over the summer.

Any other thoughts on Tina's idea?

128924 Sunset Boulevard is one of my favorites. I've watched it many times!

128924 I feel bad to be cheating on you all, but I participate in the Reading the Detectives group in Goodreads. They focus on the classic, golden age detective stories mostly, which are my favorite.

As you notice, I am still pretty active here as well!
128924 I think it would be nice to just have Appleton 2 for June. I'm looking at a very busy few months and this would work well for me.
128924 I am OK to do it in June. My reading for the rest of the month is booked. So to speak!
128924 Gavin seems unusually threatening as well. Thank goodness the local cop has things fairly well in hand.

As far as further stories so, I do like to see an friendly relationship between the detective(s) and the police. An adversarial one always seems to me to be a bit unnecessary.
128924 I read the whole thing in two readings. It was enjoyable, including for the quite different sisters.

The Bread and Breakfast thing looks to be an interesting ploy for these sorts of books. A good excuse for different people to be coming and going in the books.

It did seem to be quite a while to get to some sort of mystery, though.

128924 I love the book Crooked House. One of the best! I've not seen the recent movie, but word is that it is pretty faithful to the book. But I always think it is better to read the book first. Welcome back to the reading, LovesMysteries!

128924 Wow, NicoleG!! Where do you find the time?
128924 NicoleG: I'm afraid Nigel the side kick doesn't appear in too many after this, but Inspector Fox does, if that is who you mean.

128924 I would be fine for Busman's Honeymoon for June!

128924 Nicole, I'm a little more than halfway through Watchman. It is so interesting. Without giving too much away, Scout (Jean Louise) is now 26 and returns home for a vacation and is shocked by the way things are in her birthplace, in Alabama. Time seems to be the early-mid sixties.
