128924 Tina, I think they are calling attention to the ship that sunk with the empty treasure which was just opened.

128924 Well, I'm just out of this second section and at least they are talking about turkeys!

I do enjoy the Chat Who mysteries and have read most of them. I admit, though, that there is not a whole lot of mystery in them, at least given what we are used to.

128924 First of all, I blame whoever prepared the list of Thanksgiving mysteries for including this one. It is not remotely like Thanksgiving and very little to do with turkeys.

It also has very little to do with a murder, at least so far. I am out of this second section already.

If you like the Cat Who books, it is interesting to keep updated on the characters and such, but otherwise, not much of a mystery. So far, at least.

128924 Tina, I'm so happy things are going well. I'm finding (or rather the doctor's are) more and more things wrong, now that I am a senior citizen!

128924 Qwill's digs are described from time to time throughout the series. It does indeed sound like an amazing place.

128924 Tina and others: Qwill inherited from a distant relative, contingent on his moving and residing in Moose County (where most of the stories take place). He has the money (though we don't know how much, it is a HUGE amount) in a charitable foundation.

It seems clear we were misled by the person making the list identifying this as a Thanksgiving mystery. Yes, there are turkeys, but the time is June.

And the start of a new book store sounds wonderful.

128924 The is the 26th Cat Who book, and is from 2004. If you aren't up to date on the Cat Who series, the main characters are Jim Qwilleran a former reporter from Chicago who now lives in Moose Country, 400 miles north of everywhere. And his two cats, Koko and Yum Yum, Siamese cats. The cats are instrumental in solving mysteries, usually from Koko's noises and activities.

In this story, we open at a large event similar to the opening of the Capone vault, if you remember that from Geraldo days. In the same way, the chest which may have contained treasure did in fact, contain nothing.

The mystery so far is the mysterious death of an unknown person, shot through the head, execution-style. Qwill will be doing the investigating, along with the cats.

I'm only partially into this first section, so more will be forthcoming.

128924 Let me know when you get the book and are ready to start. For Fairlee, we typically do a third of the book each of three weeks. In the third section we discuss spoilers and the solution.

128924 I'm not sure if the October discussion is over yet. (I've not been in on that one.)

It sounds like we are on board with a Cat Who for November? Who is in?

The thing I posted mentioned 1. The Cat Who Went into the Closet and 2. The Cat Who Talked Turkey.

I have both and am sure I didn't read the second one. It also sounds more like Thanksgiving.

What do you all say?

I can host, if you'd like.

128924 Hello, Fairlee!

We are a small but active group. Typically we discuss a book a month.

Welcome aboard!

128924 Any other interest in the Cat Who?

128924 Tina. I believe all but one of these are old stories. (One story hasn't been published in the US.)I wouldn't mind a discussion as we haven't done much in the short story department. Many of them are not mysteries in the traditional sense but from Christie's supernatural period.

This link provides a ton of thanksgiving themed mysteries. I see two by Lilian Jackson Braun. Have we ever discussed any of the "Cat Who" mysteries?

128924 Looks amazing! Congratulations!
128924 Sorry, but I'm sitting this one out. Too much on my plate right now.

I'll be back!

128924 Yes!
128924 I seldom get trick or treaters in the first place, so I'm not expecting any this year. Therefore, I think three bags of candy will be sufficient!

I've got a lot of reading and work this month--I'm reading (and trying to finish) a Catherine Aird mystery and also need to review A Christmas Carol and prepare a four week presentation for Zoom on it.

128924 I finished last night, finally. I hate to brag, but I not only picked the culprit but got the motive as well. I was thinking Mannerley all along and got the motive as soon as I heard about Colin. This seldom happens, though the truly short list of possible suspects helped.

128924 I'm in this last section, but not finished yet. I'm very interested in the outcome.
128924 Nicole: I hadn't thought of Uncle Francis and Mrs. M working together. But that would certainly explain a lot!

I am about 2/3s of the way through this. I am intrigued, now that there is a murder to deal with. The cast of characters is really quite limited. Rose seems very likely at this point, though Georgie thinks that isn't possible.
