125611 An answer to your question, Niall Lynch must have taken money in his dreams without needing to earn or find it. I don't get why Ronan or Richard doesn't give Adam some. He is earning his own income and independent at a surprisingly young age of about 17 or 18, so there is nothing to prove by receiving some help. His education could be paid for by his Brother level of friends. Then he can slow down and earn his keep.

Something just occurred to me that you girls may already have thought of. I wrote about the last book how sad it must have been for Noah's family to have been mourning him and that he should have spoken to them, when having his belated service and burial. I guess he was gone 5 years. However, they must have reported him as a missing person and hoped he was alive. I feel sad that the recovery of his physical remains must have been when they found out his life was over. How terrible.

I suppose Declan & Matthew keep a gun because someone killed their Dad for reasons they don't know and guard against. I found a clue from the battle. Declan asked Gray asshole if he killed his Dad and the reply was "That is the same question he asked me". So he was there or did kill Niall and Niall asked Gray asshole if he killed HIS Dad at some other time. If I read this right, we have their Grandpa to learn about. If Niall, who must have been a solid fighter, lost again the asshole, he must be old or magical; especially to have met Mr. Lynch Senior.

125611 I am in chapter 5, where Ronan and Richard can't sleep and are watching Chainsaw play, "rustling through the garbage "like a secretary". I think "Jane" is what Richard calls her as a joke. I don't remember that because I do not find misnaming anyone funny. You know I won't be called "C".

I hate this "gray man" who obviously hurts or kills, a sociopath perhaps. I wondered if he was old and magically staying alive: did either of you, Kerri & Shirin? Mystery lovers watch for clues and he said the word his Father taught him was "trebuchet". When and where else would you use a medieval cannon, catapult?

Happily Maggie seldom uses the words "towards" (without an S), has not used "backwards", or "have got" contractions. I will be fine and enjoy this.

Now this creep is listening to "the flaming lips", whom I have only heard of. We aren't surprised other people are seeking an old legend. Do you remember how old? Noah's high school "pal" and murderer was looking for the legend. The new professor, Colin Green whom I imagine must be evil because he hired the gray asshole, is like an opponent of Roger Malloy. I don't think Roger is seeking the Raven King but is an expert in leylines whom Richard consults. People are looking for years from all over the world but only a few have found the right town, Henrietta.

Do you remember how Richard heard about the legend? Is "Graywaren" a name for the Raven King, or an object? It is funny to be seeking an object for uses that Ronan knows how to do. We are just getting acclimated to this story and don't have information. However, my mystery rader is telling me I don't think they would kill Niall if they knew he could do what they think the relic does.

I look forward to your thoughts, quotes, reflections on how you are enjoying this. I was preoccupied but took out the trash metaphorically and should resume reading tonight. :) Don't let your progress stop you from posting. We'll watch each other's chapter numbers. If I hunker down in our fresh bed like I look forward to tonight, I might read a lot and I have had plenty of sleep. Your friend, Carolyn.

125611 I like talk shows because you get to know artists as people. The better the interviewer, the better you see the personal side of those interviewed, humour, passion. You feel like seeing a piece you would not have considered, or perhaps heard of. I don't watch the news but a little celebrity catch-up covers some of it.

I only watched "Survivor" a couple of times. I thought Jeff Probst was curt, unlikeable, in the same brown shorts year after year. He had a talk show at least 5 years ago that was great. I got to know him, found out about a singer and film I'd like to look into, and like him a little better.

I grew-up in an Elvis Presley loving family. I was shocked and sad when his baby, Lisa Marie, little older than me, died this year. I have two of her albums. I was a toddler but remember the news that Elvis died in 1977. It feels like we have talked about him enough. So I was surprised when a movie was made about him but Lisa's & Priscilla's support made me interested.

Five minutes ago, I just saw Bradley Cooper on "Stephen Colbert". This leads me to two poignant subjects: what I learn from seeing artists as themselves and the magic that aligns when someone does their passion project. Bradley played a rowdy Vegas vacationer on "The Hangover", which I didn't want to see. His art was elevated when he sang with Stephanie Lady Gaga in "A Star Is Born" (as an untreated alcoholic).

He changed before me tonight, speaking of his new film about "Leonard Bernstein". He is right that most people & I don't know who that is in 2023, although his name is familiar. He apparently made American classic music popular and was one of the foremost, passionate conductors in the world.

Bradley calls it the role of his life. He prepared for 6 years. He & his co-stars were so moved and invested in their experience, he said they went beyond acting. He is sure the Bernsteins were helping them and that they were channelling the Bernsteins.

When someone is this wholehearted about what they do, it is a film I need to see, even though I don't listen to much classical music. Putting in your best effort is powerful and these are the kind of performances we want to see: that become a profound experience for their audiences as well.

125611 Did the first novel give a description of Blue's real name? It must be a nickname. Was someone calling her and she was remarking on answering to "Jane" or not?

I am glad you named your chapter and not too much about it. I just wanted to sleep last night. Tonight, I might try a chapter or so of "The Winter Guest" by W.C. Ryan, an Irishman. Reading "The Dream Thieves" will carry me away easily.

I want to share a difficulty with American authors. They tend to use "towards" and "backwards" without an "S" and it drives me mental. Canadians and British keep the "S", with some exceptions. Some Americans add the S, thank the good Lord. Maggie Stiefvater does not.

Shirin, did I mention to you or in reviews that I have a "neurological glitch" called mysphonia? It is where we hate certain words or sounds so much, it is mentally painful. Knowing about this, you will recognize that in some of my reviews.

I will do the best I can with these books and hope the content is kick-ass enough to not mind covering words with my hand a few times. I also hate "have got" contractions in place of "have". New triggers can affect mysophonia sufferers, words that seem wrong to us. So authors I used to enjoy are hard to read. Sometimes triggers can reduce or go if I have a break from them. Weird.

W.C. Ryan keeps the S's in, which means being able to relax through a whole book without bracing myself to put my hand over hated words.

125611 I will find pleasure in seeing your thoughts, like a release of negative emotions and subjects. As always too, the warmth of you understanding me well and supporting me two decades later. Love, Carolyn.

125611 Hi Shirin & Kerri! Again, I am reading everything even though I did not read far. We're all tired, aren't we! I too read the prologue and perhaps the first page of the first chapter. I know Richard & Blue are going somewhere. I didn't understand about "Jane" being an incorrect name. What was that about?

I saw the joke about not liking him after that feminist dig. Good one, Shirin! I'll finish seeing where they are going up that green hill, with Richard's shirt flapping in the wind. I dislike the way he seems conceited but I think he only means to be funny. Also, confident people sometimes are interpreted as conceited by mistake. I think he is a loving young man.

It is interesting that they are worried the ghost road was a bad omen about Richard but she still did not kiss Adam, to be on the safe side. If the Raven King grants a wish, Richard can wish to live. If he is awake or alive, could there be more wishes?

Shirin, I think Ronan was only narrating that there are three kinds of secrets. He was not enumerating his Dad as a separate secret. If Niall can do the same thing as Ronan, they have the same unique "secret #3". Wow girls, I can sure talk even if I have only read something like 7 pages. I am relieved I am encouraging you to lead, haha!

Ron answered my e-mail and is coming with groceries. It should have been before my birthday. He needs to learn to express himself, especially if there is stress. Even if we start to talk a little, this is very positive. Love, your friend, Carolyn.
Nov 19, 2023 11:31PM

125611 Haha, I couldn't help reading your whole entry even though I haven't opened the first page yet. Thank you for your lovely wishes that I just saw at my profile, Kerri dear. Thank you for both pampering and comforting for my birthday. It continues as I get better and better: health wise and issue wise. :)

The little I have seen is all right and only whets my curiousity. Yes, I do suppose in that world, you don't know how to account for the magic: the girl who is imbued with it, Ronan who seems out of this world or his dreams are, or the always intriguing leylines.

125611 Where do you keep finding out about every celebrity? You always know about Anne Perry and stuff and say "I read that she died". Where? I HAD NO IDEA ABOUT SUZANNE SOMMERS. I am shocked because I had looked her up exetensively recently. While "Three's Company" is cheesy and dependent on things society shouldn't get shocked about; she was a beautiful woman, intelligent, and a career powerhouse. I don't think she did much acting. She had a lot health material, even if I didn't agree with working your face muscles with her tool.

I saw her interview on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" at least once. I have been touched by her because she had lost her home to a fire. Ellen returned photographs to her in an album they made.

You said "US", when I wonder if it should be "North America". Do you have a hard time getting their TV but not ours? Adam Beach is from Manitoba. Many American shows oddly, are filmed in Canada. We intertwine.

The end of your musings is fantastic. I didn't think of that at all, so it was worth hearing from you again. As I have written about more times than I need to repeat, starting with that "Paul" asshole we dumped out of here, the theme of a nude actor finding it harder to lose their body health is false. We decided "no" with a million great examples, including those I am relieved you read today.

It is a whole other mental concept, that Ulrich valued his body properly when he struggled with it but a healthy woman wrecked her and decorated it. I am not into tattoos. The more natural we leave our skin the better. I would never say anything to anyone but it doesn't take many for me to wince. Don't worry about my new age today: I said this at 10!

Thank you very much for birthday greetings in our public place, Kerri! I had saved reading this and wrote about myself in our "The Dream Thieves" folder. Ron might have given me Pamela's and Henry's autobiographies.

I didn't know why we would talk about Tim Curry, an actor I hardly know. A refresher showed me this was my surprise when you must have mentioned him. I don't remember why you mentioned him, haha. Yes, he would be a great kids' villain. I think this is it, except for a vent about your observation that some people who are wealthy don't navigate their friends?

Ours were generous in the last decade. They bought around 3 items from Amazon.ca and it was exciting, because I dislike spending more than $15.00 CDN for a book. No matter how much it interests me, I'd rather cobble more items together. Meanwhile, they allowed us to give them used books from our brimming collection. It was probably the same value but I got them at lower prices. They shopped in the library for about 5 items each and I think they had fun. It saved us money. I'll give credit to people who started out as fine friends. Too bad they didn't know us as well as they should.

Ron & I were vegetarian by 2004, or we had removed mammals at least. We liked ordering pizza with friends and it tastes the same no matter what you put on it, in North America. It is easier to buy vegetarian pizzas for everyone to share. Most people buy one vegetarian and one or two meat ones but take from our box the same. Their boys arrived after being and had any pizza they wanted. They expected us to pay a half share. I didn't think what to say at that time.

Thank you for giving me a variety of subjects to write about today. I was busy with birthday greetings yesterday. This was fun, dear Kerri. Love, Birthday Girl Carolyn.

125611 Happy birthday to me, Carolyn! As a present to me, remember that I want you guys to write notes first! It is more fun for me this way. I'd rather not lead but enjoy the thrill of new ideas and directions, the same as you two.

I did not feel well enough to read last night but will see if I do tonight. I will have fun finding a bunch of material to read when I am ready to type here. :) Love, Carolyn.

125611 I have looked forward to sharing this sad loss with you, Kerri dear. Knowing he was Canadian added something to my connected feeling with him but that book made me feel like I knew him. It made me feel like he needed more people like me, who care more about understanding him as a person we wanted to hug, than a talented actor we enjoyed.

Chandler Bing was unforgettable and my favourite, with David Schwimmer's Ross Geller. Yes, the joy of "Friends" is real. But I meet artists and read their autobiographies, knowing they are people like me. I cried when Ron told me the news about Matthew. You will enjoy this boook and want to hug Matthew. Exactly like Mike, he tells bad things with exceptionally uplifting humour and personal confidentiality.

Thank God, Ron didn't fall or have any accident away from home, at work or anywhere. My Dad is always watched by Mark, home care, and his younger Brother lives near him. Many of us are asking "Why, God? Matthew wanted to live, helped so much, and work through his challenges". He knows he is loved and thought of constantly.

125611 Yes, I was happy to see that in e-mail. I look forward to that letter you finished over the week-end. I would like to finish the hardcover I saved for my "birthday month reading extravaganza". It is more about war than I like so I only read a few pages last night but I love W.C. Ryan's writing. It should pick up and sweep me away, especially when the strange architecture of the house and spirits come into the picture. It is "The Winter Guest".

I think Shirin is game to jump into Maggie Stiefvater whenever we are, so give me perhaps two days. Love always, birthday girl Carolyn!

125611 To our dear Matthew Perry, shared with great pride by Canada and the United States: your loss hurts a lot of people because we love you. I am not on Twitter or anything and wish I had looked for your e-mail address to tell you how much your book moved me and how much I wanted to give you a hug.

I supported you and wanted your dreams to come true: a wife, children, and helping others. I am sad because you deserved to live long and do that. I suspect you had poolside duress that would have been harmless if someone had been there with you. As people, let's please check on loved-ones, friends, and neighbours who live alone.

I am also freaked out and shaken, learning that you are only 3.5 years older than me. We are young with so much life before us. You will get what I mean when I search for the acceptance to say: You are in God's kitchen now, Matthew. Enjoy your freedom there and I will pray for your dear family. Love always, Carolyn and millions of your fellow Canadians, Americans, and worldwide fans.

125611 You are fast Shirin, with every novel except your plan, "1984"! Haha! I am in. I am excited to begin whenever Kerri confirms she has her brand new laptop.

I am presently reading Hallowe'en fare, with Traditional Chinese Medicine healing on the side, always to help our cats & us be healthy. Love, Carolyn.

125611 I have been ready since August. Are we ever reading this, my friends? Of course, not while we are *this* out of touch. When you can be on just about every day to write and reply, so it is short bits at a time, let me know.
Oct 25, 2023 10:26AM

125611 I let you know on October 2. Your contribution did not miss anything but I would enjoy knowing your reaction to the stories I shared in my last post.

125611 Fair enough. I myself, as a writer and compassionate person, choose my words knowingly: Aboriginal as the umbrella term for all types. I haven't seen anyone make a peep on here in awhile but appreciate that you were addressing our humble public circle. I wish people read and responded to what we shared, right!

125611 I am Métisse. I sometimes use First Nations, Inuit, and tribe when we can but we are often mixed. Aboriginal, if not a new trend, does not connote disrespect. Trends change. Letting me know a term is not en vogue was fine. Just please avoid assuming someone doesn't know a bunch of other stuff.

Yes, we are proud of Wab and it was covered live on national news. I saw it on the PEI channel yesterday morning.

125611 Today, Winnipeg's Assiniboine Park provided the scene to swear in our newly elected provincial premier: Wab Kinew. What makes this day amazing and special is that he is the first Aboriginal to lead Manitoba.

Premier Wab Kinew is also the first Aboriginal leader of any province in Canada! This is momentous and I am glad I turned on the TV and witnessed this colourfully cultural ceremony today. All the town chiefs who were honoured guests are women, which rocks. Apparently Manitoba actor, Adam Beach was there today too.

125611 Sarah, use your cell phone to open Goodreads like any website. You don't need to use the app. I don't think that is the issue. Most people upload one photo at a time without noticing that you can make an album first.

"Supernatural" is fake things like vampires. "Paranormal" is ethereal things in real life, like spirits! Spirits aren't evil, although authors concoct them that way. When I say I love "paranormal"; I mean the wonderful souls that any spiritual person believes in and counts on. Maybe a little suspenseful and spooky because we are blown away that communication with them is possible, the way we have hoped.

I'll get my other clarification over with too, that mystery is literally an adventure quest to solve clues, answer questions, and make discoveries. Too many authors think crimes and detectives need to be thrown in. Untrue. My favourite kind is 'non crime mystery'; which often has the paranormal as the mystery! Speeches over, mike drop! :-)
Oct 14, 2023 06:46PM

125611 P.S. I love the new photograph of yourself! I can't comment on it. Most people don't know (I simply figured it out): these options become available and you don't lose photos you switch from, if you put them in an album first.
