1194258 So once you have everything you need to know about both your culture and plot you can start writing, I’ve found your characters will develop a lot more as you write.

1194258 For the world building I normally take one or more real life countries from any time period and mash them together to create the culture, people, land, everything. For example heres some of my notes for one of my countries.

Adria
Culture // 1100 Norman (Viking) & Ancient Celtic
Landscape // Norway, Scotland & Iceland
Architecture // Norway, England & Ireland
Religion // Celtic/Christianity

Once I have the basics of that figured out naming becomes a lot easier because then I can look at just that culture/kingdom names or I can mix a few words in the languages from the countries.

Like my MC from Adria (above country) is named Brenn which is of Gaelic and Old Norse origin. So her name goes with culture!

1194258 Hi Kenz, that’s a good question but every writer is different and uses different methods. So I’ll explain how I do it and maybe some other people can add how they start a book.

So usually I just start with like a vibe and a few main events and some characters that are mostly just a few personality traits and a hair color or something. From there I decide if I want to write it as a book now or just leave it for later, once I decide I move onto the next step which is world building and character details. I spend the most time in this stage since in my opinion the world and characters make the book just so much better if done right and I genuinely enjoy it. Daydreaming comes in a lot here, as I play different scenes in my head and lines of dialogue. As the world and characters come together a plot starts to take shape all on its own and that gets written down in order.
