Take an epic journey and get lost in the pages of a weighty tome. This challenge is for the intrepid souls who are ready to dive into books that run over 1000 pages long.
State your own goal.
Maxi challenges are intended to inspire you with a variety of ways to meet your reading goals throughout the year. *Some challenges last all year. These can be joined at any time and completed more than once.
*Some challenges are only available for a limited time. This will be stated in the description.
How to Join
*Simply state your goal in the challenge thread. There are levels for everyone, whatever your time commitment.
*You can use the same book across multiple challenges.
*Remember to come back to let us know how you're doing throughout the year.
We also recommend using the Personal Challenge Folder to track all of your challenges in one place.
Questions?
Questions about the Maxi Challenges in general can be asked here, and any new challenge ideas are also welcome.
Questions about specific challenges should be asked within the challenge thread.
I downgraded my goal to one shelf bender, and almost didn't make it at all. But fortunately Kingdom of Ash was 1066 pgs, and I just squeaked it through in time! We won't mention my initial goal of reading War and Peace, which I have completely forgotten even exists...
Kathy wrote: "Finally got back here after finding a Time of Life book, Christamas with Tucker by George Kincaid. Rolled a 4, have to read something a partner will pick."Kathy, I took a look at your shelf, and here are three for you to choose from:
The Locksmith's Daughter
The Death of Mrs. Westaway
Legendary
Oh good! That's exactly what I was aiming for, but I wasn't sure if some of the themes were too difficult to find.
You've had a really great run, Kiwi! I'm glad you enjoyed playing. Do you have any thoughts on how the game could be improved for next year?
I went ahead and added the new personal challenge folder so people can get started with general goals if they like. It's here: Personal Challenges - 2019.
The personal challenges folder is a central place where you can keep track of all of your reading goals. This is your personal record, so you can collect any goals or challenges, including any from outside this group. If you're not sure how this might look, you can check out other members' topics for ideas. Many people use this as a place to link to all of the challenges they've joined so they're easier to find and update.
To create your personal challenge tracker, click on the "new topic" link at the top of the "Personal Challenges - 2019" folder. You'll want to include your name in the topic title.
Good luck with your goals for 2019, and most of all, happy reading!
I agree about stuffing a whole lot of fun ones in there, Candy! I usually don't have a hard time making my goal because I'm reading for fun.
Yes, it definitely helps to put everything in one thread and link out from there. I have two books that I need to read this month to finish my challenges. I need to finish one series, and read one more Gothic novel. I'm pretty happy about my progress this year!
I'm planning to read The Hogwarts Collection. I'm not sure if it's actually Children's, since the Harry Potter series matured over time. I'll decide if it counts after I've read it.
We have one month left to make a final effort on our challenges for this year! How have you done this year? Will you try anything differently next year? Is there anything different you'd like to see in the group for 2019?
Rosemarie wrote: "That's what I think too. One Pimpernel is probably enough. I thought the plot was okay, but I'm not that impressed with the writing."I felt a bit let down by the ending for some reason.
