Pretty good so far."

"Finally" is right. :P

I laughed hysterically through the vast majority of that book. And then listened to the audio book narrated by Stephen Fry and laughed even HARDER. :D

A little of both. I've heard of a lot of books on Goodreads that my library doesn't even have, or that I would have overlooked just by the title and cover but that people's comments have made me want to read. On the other hand, I find it easier to browse for books at a library.

It's beautiful, Holly! :)

So true!

118012 Welcome, Rob!

That's a great response to being cut off in traffic, LOL. And I've had the same problem as you since joining Goodreads - no matter how many books I read, my to-read list just keeps getting longer!

118012 If so many plan on reading this in February, we could always default it as the official YA group read for the month?
118012 Carol wrote: "The main character reminds me of Klinger from Mash. Klinger had problems with Catch 22 too."

I seem to recall hearing/reading somewhere that the character of Klinger was directly inspired by this book. Has anyone else heard that? Did I imagine it? There certainly were a lot of similarities.

I'm in my 30's and I hated this book, I'm afraid. I read it last year. I believe my opinion was "A good idea done horribly wrong." It's very much a love-it-or-hate-it kind of book.

Not in everyone's opinion, so could you please refrain from making antagonistic comments like this when a simple "I don't like Jo Nesbo" would suffice? One of the rules of this community is that we respect each other's differences and don't hold up our own opinion as the only one. Thanks.

If you need to read that kind of analytical review before you pick up the book to read it, you could always read what people have written on the book's main review page here. There are a lot of in-depth reviews and discussions there.

I've barely started it, myself. I'm enjoying it a lot, but I don't tend to analyze or dissect much, and not at all until I've read the whole book.

My favourite thing in the world is to see stacks of books all over my room, haha! I have one for new books I've bought and haven't read yet, one for second-hand books I've bought and haven't read yet, one for library books, one for books I've borrowed from my brother...

That's my sickness, too, and I don't want to be cured. ;)

They're unofficial group reads, where maybe only 2 or 3 people decide to read the same book at the same time and discuss it amongst themselves.
118012 Nice list! Good luck with your German studies!

I read it as a kid, but it wasn't the kind of story I was into, so all I remember about it is that it bored me, haha. I've been meaning to read it again as an adult. I would imagine my opinion would have changed by now!
118012 I'm really tripping along with this read! I'm finding it hard to put down. I especially love the contrast between the way the main character imagines things will go and the way they actually happen - one is the way things happen in typical romance novels, and the other is the way things happen in reality. DuMaurier has captured that perfectly, which is something that not every author can do.

118012 My first book of the year is The Island of Dr. Moreau, which I enjoyed a lot more than I thought I would.
