I've changed the name of this thread to "Can We Reach 10,000?" because I think we totally can. :D

When you enter a challenge on Goodreads and select a number of books to shoot for, you get your very own widget telling you how many books you've read and what percentage of your goal you have achieved so far. Depending on whether or not you're reading at a pace that will get you to your goal by the end of the year, this widget can reward you with positive feedback (Congratulations! You're # books ahead!) or pile on the guilt (Oh no! You're # books behind!).
So... what does YOUR widget say? Are you ahead? Behind? Right on track? This is the place where you can rejoice over being ahead of schedule, cry over being behind schedule, or kick the widget for its very existence reminding you that you need to sit on your butt and
read something.
My widget has been all over the place this year, but right now it's telling me that I'm 1 book ahead. Yay! Much better than last year's widget, which kept adding more and more to the "# books behind" count until I was ready to throw it out the metaphorical window. I think it must have had a glitch... yeah, that's what it was... *nods*

I LOVE Hardy. I'm already planning to read The Trumpet Major in March, but I'd have no problem adding Far From the Madding Crowd to my list as well.

Welcome to all the new members! I hope you enjoy yourselves here. :)

14.
The Custodian of ParadiseI wrote a review for this one, which is
here.
Lorah wrote: "I can't wait to read The Help, everyone says it's great. I haven't seen the film yet either."The film changed a few things that seemed pretty important in the book, and of course it left a lot of things out, so while the film is great and I really loved it, I definitely recommend reading the book.

Are there authors that you love so much that you would (and do) seek out and read absolutely everything they've ever written? Authors whose voices speak to you more deeply than others, and you just can't get enough of them?
For me it's Charles Dickens, Charlotte Bronte, and L.M. Montgomery. I read everything by these authors that I can get my hands on, including short stories, essays... everything. As for more modern authors, I'm slowly making my way through Wayne Johnston's body of work and loving every minute of it.
What about you?
Renee wrote: "Okay, this is just not right. It's a frickin' REREAD for goodness sake! And I just can't put it down!!!!"It's just that awesome. :)

I don't see how it's "cheating" just because your eyes aren't scanning the page. If you've taken the words in, understood them, and have seen the story playing out in your mind, then you've "read" the book. Personally, I love being read to, and it's extra-special if you're being read to by a celebrity of some kind. ;)

Gautami, I see that it's been a while since you posted about this so ..."Sorry, Gautami, I thought you had figured it out soon after you'd posted! I went to your thread and thought that you had successfully updated it. Many apologies! I'm glad you stuck with it. :)

Finished
The Help, which was seriously awesome.
The Custodian of Paradise by Wayne Johnston, which is kind of a spin-off (can books have spin-offs?) from his
The Colony of Unrequited Dreams, which I absolutely loved.

Welcome, Lucy! I'm sure you'll get lots of book recommendations here. :)
