I'm trying to decide between three books right now.

This may be in part because I was not a big fan of Book 6 and had prepared myself for disappointment because of everyone else's comments. And also, I'm in a good state of mind for reading right now. I think I was in a slump for the last one. But I really felt like this one was up to the first five's caliber.
As much as I dislike paranormal baby prophecies, I felt like Darynda did alright. Charley didn't change. She's still a badass. Still doing all of the things that Reyes doesn't want her to. And getting more powerful every day. I liked that. I also liked that the focus wasn't 100% on hell hounds and the prophecy and the twelve, because I'm not all that into it for whatever reason. I like her ghostie mysteries. There were a couple of those. The only thing that I really wanted that I didn't get was resolve to the mystery of Mr. Wong. I mean, wtf. I need to know what's up with this dude.
I felt like we learned a lot about Charley and the ending of this book set up the next one really nicely, which I why I decided to tack on an extra star. (view spoiler)
Enjoy those spoilers, Kim.
I actually felt like there was less romance than in the previous books.
I'd like for Swoopes and this voodoo shit to play a bigger role. That'd be pretty cool.

Then we have to come up with a December challenge. Post the book, date completed, and the box you're claiming for it when you get it. We can all win haha.

Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile case. Nevada isn’t sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.
Then she’s kidnapped by Connor “Mad” Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run or surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.
Rogan’s after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she’s getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world."

We owe our good health to a humble parasite - a genetically engineered tapeworm developed by the pioneering SymboGen Corporation. When implanted, the tapeworm protects us from illness, boosts our immune system - even secretes designer drugs. It's been successful beyond the scientists' wildest dreams. Now, years on, almost every human being has a SymboGen tapeworm living within them.
But these parasites are getting restless. They want their own lives...and will do anything to get them.
