From werewolves and vampires, to demons and aliens, the monster is one of the most recognizable figures in horror. But what makes something, or someone, monstrous?
This chilling collection has something to please—and terrify—everyone, so lock your doors, hide under your covers, and try not to scream.

Somehow I missed this gem, thank you YouTube!

Earthborn: A Witch World Story ★★★½☆
That was hard drop into high fantasy but it was a fun skirmish in a D&D setting.
Sword of Unbelief ★★½☆☆
Elys is some kind of magical warrior witch going after her null warrior boyfriend that was kidnapped in the wastelands for unknown reasons. It was dry, formal, sword and sorcery. Overlong.
The Last Spell ★★★☆☆
Nimuë, princess and Merlin’s protégé, stands by his bedside as he lays dying to learn the last of his magical knowledge.

In these eight stories and twenty-three poems, World Fantasy Award winner Theodora Goss retells and recasts fairy tales by Charles Perrault, the Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen, and Oscar Wilde. Sometimes harrowing, sometimes hilarious, always lyrical, the works gathered in SNOW WHITE LEARNS WITCHCRAFT re-center and empower the women at the heart of these timeless narratives.

I had a great time with the vampire mammoth and I’m still working my way through the fantasy mammoth. I do like chronological anthologies. I’ve made it to the 2000s of The Weird. Just ten more years to go!

Woohoo! I felt the same way about Ursula Le Guin for a hot second. I bought some large collections after enjoying The Left Hand of Darkness. This will be my first Norton.

Oh, I’m currently 76th in line to get another crack at this :)

So nice to see new faces here! 😃

Just had a great time watching Twisters. It was not as intense or funny as the original but the soundtrack was excellent.

Ok, if I could message you in regard to the October poll I have. Wren, if you would like to make a submission for the October poll just message me or let me know in this thread.

Heck yeah, I’m happy to read the-old-guy-saves-the-day short stories.
The Turbulence Expert ★★★½☆
A secret precog network keeps us alive in the sky.
Laurie ★★★½☆
A recently widowed man receives a puppy from his sister to help cope with the loss.

A rich anthology of short stories from the Grand Dame of Science Fiction and Fantasy.
For decades, Andre Norton forged a truly individual legacy. Garnering a devoted legion of fans for her series, including the Witch World sagas, her boundless imagination and literary skill earned her numerous accolades.
This collection is the first of three volumes that showcase her unforgettable talent.

Danny Coughlin’s Bad Dream ★☆☆☆☆ DNF
This was torture. Just hours of police interviews and trailer park despair. I should have quit earlier.
Finn ★★★☆☆
A regular man is mistakenly kidnapped by the darker side of Homeland Security.
On Slide Road In ★★★☆☆
Grandpa, a Vietnam Vet, saves the day when his weak ass son just stands there catching flies.
Red Screen ★★☆☆☆
Wife murdering nonsense.
