Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye Dae noticed a dark shadow move from one tree to another. He blinked.

"I came here to greet you..." She started and then gave out a small laugh. The woman was definitely not asking her why she 'got in here'.
"Why I'm a Keeper is a very long story. Might tell you sometime when you're done with your Quest. About your own wish you probably know better than anyone... And if you are asking about me helping you - well, those are the rules of this place. I wasn't the one who invented them. I'm just following what Crimson Witch and her Cat told us to do..."
Why were they following these rules? That was a good question indeed. But Riin quickly shook her head to free it of unneeded thoughts. Doubt rarely led to good results.

"Welcome to the Labyrinth. I'm the White Keeper, Riin." The girl curtsied with a smile. "To get your wish granted you need to pass through a number of... rooms, if you'd like to call them that, safely. Some are a bit... bigger, though. If you are in trouble or do not know what to do next, you can ask me for help three times. All you need to do is call me." She shrugged. "But I'll be around watching you, anyways."

Straight lines crossed the table dividing the surface into neat square blocks. There was a similar pattern on the plate too.

The first room inside wasn't all too big. It was a hall of some building, a square-cut space with minimum furniture and light. Every item in the room, every decor had a distinct geometric form. Even fruit and berries on a perfectly square plate weren't freely misshaped by the forces of nature: those were carefully selected oranges - neatly round and positively orange - and red currant.

The Right Gargoyle rolled his eyes at the girl and boomed in a low and somewhat screechy voice. “And the Gates are opening… Find your way through, complete the Quest, get one wish…” He sighed and scratched the base of his tail with his claw. “Bla bla…”
“Oh, c’mon, bro. You don’t have to ‘xplain all that…” The Left Gargoyle giggled crazily. “That’s a Keeper’s job.”
“Yeah. So, go on, missy. We don’t have all day, you know.” The Right one groaned grumpily.
“Yeah!” Squeaked the Left one. “Move your… human legs…!” He made a walking gesture with his splayfooted lower limbs and almost fell off the Gates’ pillar if not for a pair of tattered bat-like winds on his back.
“Does she look like a human to you?!” Boomed the Right one in exasperation. “Dimwit…”
“WHOM YOU CALLING A DIMWIT?!!!” The squeaky gargoyle was shaking with rage. “YOU… YOU…”
“Bah… Dimwit.” Confirmed the Right Gargoyle boldly and licked one eye with a long tongue.
The Left shut up in an instant and wiggled back into the stone surface up to his horns, deeply offended.

"Off we go then!" He spun around quickly and continued through the thicket of little green plants. The plant-men hurried to get out of his way, creating green waves around as if Dae was a rock thrown in a pond on a windless day.

Dim magic light slowly flared up deep in the ancient writings on the Gates once again and then in a flash of greenish fire two figures started forming on both sides of it.
First came the snouts, pushing their way out through the stone surface of the Gates as if carved by an invisible giant hand. Then came the rest of the heads, with big flap ears, convoluted horns and a variety of teeth and fangs in deformed chaps. The creatures wiggled and made a few more inches out of the stone. Soon there were claws and paws, wings and tails, and hoofs, and more furry, scaly and simply bare skin visible.
Both gargoyles sighed and solemnly announced in a deep screechy and scratchy and dubiously discordant unison.
"MELINA MIKAELSON IS NOW TO PROCEED TO THE LABYRINTH! GATES WILL BE OPENING IN FIVE!"
"Repeat…" Squeaked the Left Gargoyle with as much emotion a loudspeaker could possibly have.
"MELINA MIKAELSON IS NOW TO PROCEED TO THE LABYRINTH!" The both creatures repeated in a more disturbing chorus.

The man chuckled audibly and the movement stopped abruptly, the little green things cowardly pretending to be just ordinary forest plants.

He pointed to the greenery below. The leaves seemed to be moving in small but chaotic waves, almost trembling, not really responding to the gusts of wind sometimes blowing through the forest.
