107978 This particular that is for authors to offer readers a free copy of their book in exchange for an honest review.

I haven't done one in this group yet, but I would hope you would get a decent response. We're still pretty small.

In our sister group, Some Like It Hot!, I gave away about 50 e copies between both my books and got about 15 reviews, which I thought was a pretty good return.
When I have a little more time, I'll send you a message with some of the other marketing tools I've learned. It is a time consuming prospect. (I'm trying to do it while driving truck over the road with my hubby. We are delivering a load of glass right now. ...)

107978 That's all I can do, some days, since I drive truck for a living and when I get done with my shift sometimes, most times, I'm to tired to fire up the laptop. But I remember the things I figured out. plus sometimes I'll make audio notes for safe measure.
I call that a good day's work Charlene!

107978 This is the place where authors can offer their books to readers in exchange for honest reviews.

Usually this means free ebooks are provided in the hopes that readers will post an honest review.

Authors should understand that reviews cannot be demanded and there should be no repercussions if a reader does not post a review. In addition, if you don't think you can respect an honest review then you may not be ready to offer your work for a review exchange.

Readers should understand that authors providing free books are doing so for promotional purposes and while it is a business investment, it is also an emotional investment. Please keep this in mind when you choose to participate in an exchange.

This group is a safe place for readers and writers to interact. Respectful communication is required within this group, and encouraged outside this group. Please see group rules for guidelines.

107978 They glossed over my hitch, the revision process. I can never seem to let them go, they never reach perfection. Most of the rest of the points are accurate, too. :-)

107978 What are you reading right now and what prompted you to pick it up? Was it the cover art? The title? The blurb? Were you searching for something in particular? Give us an insight into your thought process.

107978 Finished proof reading for a fellow group member. Now I'm trying to get back into the swing of writing. Knocked out 500 words yesterday and 250 today. It's something!

107978 @P.S. - most likely the 'I didn't take time to read the directions thoroughly' kinds. :)

- Oh, and when you download the app they try to get you to add on a bunch of extra programs that I don't have any desire to add. Didn't catch it the first time and had to uninstall 2 or 3 of them.

@Tamsen - the other one that I got interrupted in the middle of trying, but that looked promising was Lulu. That (I believe) is an online converter, so no downloading programs.

My tip on this would be to make sure you have a good block of time to try a couple of them out. You will need to follow their directions, and myself, I am easily distracted and if I lose my place in the directions I have to start over. That gets frustrating.

Beware downloading 'free' software, (like 2epub, if I recall) as they often have tagalong programs that will potentially screw up other programs you may have - such as virus and security, that sort of thing. Or especially web browsers and search engines, which will override your preferred default (if you have set one). They aren't necessarily virus programs, just annoying.

Good luck, and feel free to post your experience! Every success (and failure) has a lesson to benefit us all.
