With one exception, all participants have completed their assignments. I am closing this group and will look for Alternate Reviewers for the missed reviews.

I am running a little late, but all first round assignments have been resolved. Good work.

Is it possible to start a review/ critique group for space opera books? It could also be for science fiction. I am looking for space opera books to review/ critique/ swap. Thank you.

I haven't start a review group from this request, because I was confused about how many members still wanted a review group due to a couple of posters reviewing books based on these posts rather than waiting for a review group. I don't want to discourage impromptu reviews. So I'm okay with it, but you can see that complicates starting a new review group.
That said, I think it is time. So a new review group has been started at https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/.... Please check it out. I set the maximum book size at 50,000 words. Is that what you want? Should the limit be higher or lower? Let me know.

This is Short Book Review Group 2 - Fantasy/Science Fiction which includes any work that fits either genre and is 50,000 words or less. As with other review groups, you will be expected to read and give an honest review of the books assigned to you. Assignments will be made after the group sign-up has filled.
Participants are expected to post reviews to Goodreads. If the review is positive (three stars or higher on Amazon), the review should be posted to Amazon (US and UK) as well, if the book is available there. This makes having accounts with both Goodreads and Amazon.com a requirement.
If a reviewer and the author agree that the review should not be posted to Goodreads due to quality issues, the reviewer is relieved of the requirement of posting the review. If this occurs in the first round, the second reviewer is relieved of the requirement to read and review the book. This is entirely at the discretion of the reviewer and is not intended in any way to manipulate the rating of any book.
Contact the authors you are scheduled to review to arrange to receive a review copy of their work.
Please post to this topic, both when you receive review copies and when you post the reviews.
If you are going to be late with your review, either post to this topic as soon as possible or message the author and the moderator.
If your book has not been reviewed by the deadline for either round, contact the review group moderator. This is necessary to make certain that the review process is fair for everyone.
Note that any participant who makes no effort to fulfill his or her commitment to this group will have all reviews of his or her work resulting from this group deleted and his or her membership in the Genre Specific Review Group will be terminated.

People:
If you notice that I've made an mistake, please let me know. I won't mind. (I can always use the quite valid excuse that I'm old. Wait a minute. Isn't that the way that Master Po got himself killed? Maybe I should be a little more careful.)

Thanks a ton!"
There is a Rules and Tools folder in Genre Specific Review Groups that has useful information to help members navigate through issues specific to our group. This question is addressed in the following post:

I am sorry to say that all of the reviews were not completed for this review group. The second round due date has passed, and I will be marking this group as closed. If you have not received both of your reviews, please let me know.
R.

If you accept a request:
1) Let the moderator know that you will be taking on the book.
2) Contact the author to let them know that you are going to read and review the book as an Alternate Reviewer and request a review copy. Let the author know when you expect to complete the read and review. (Pick a schedule with which you are comfortable.)
3) If you complete the review on schedule, provide the author with the links to the reviews. (Usually Goodreads, Amazon, and Amazon UK, but this can be worked out between the reviewer and the author, if different venues are desired.)
4) If you are not going to complete the review on schedule, contact the author before the scheduled date to provide an updated completion date. There are all sorts of valid reasons for missing a due date. Alternate Reviewers are helping us make the Genre Specific Review Groups are more useful and fair place for authors to get recognition and grow as writers. This is appreciated. Just do not leave an author hanging, please.
