[close] Welcome Bookworms! If you are looking for the "byairandland Virtual Book Club", then you have come to the right place! After graduating university, I finally had enough time to begin reading for fun again. Within the past year, I have read plenty of books, but I wanted to be able to share them with friends. Thus, I created byairandland as a way to share my experiences with literature and running. It wasn't until I joined goodreads that I got the idea to start a book club though my blog. The last Wednesday of the previous month, I will announce the upcoming months selection. You can find the selections on my blog (byairandland.com). Our first selection will be announced on January 31st, 2017. Feel free to use this space as a way to share your opinions and discuss the the monthly read with fellow followers. [close] If you are like me, then you enjoy reading a good book. You'd like to take part in a book club, but there seems to be one or more obstacles preventing you from staying long-term. Maybe it's the location. Paratransit just might not be able to get you to someone's scenic mountain home. Or maybe the book is a new release that is a bit off the beaten path and therefore isn't available on a place like Bookshare or BARD. Or perhaps you would just like to find a place where you aren't asked whether you dream in color. In any case, this is a book club for anyone who is interested in connecting with or is part of the blind/low vision community, and loves to read. The pandemic has given rise to many virtual book clubs but as things begin reopening, who knows just how long those Zoom meetings will last? It is my hope to create a group where any and all are welcome, and we are all able to read together, develop friendships, and have some fun.

[close] Every month this club explores a book of literature with a connection to a different country or culture. This group targets Toronto and Peterborough, but is not tied to Canadians. In fact, I encourage people from far and wide to join. The group is affiliated with meetup.com, but there are no fees for participants. There is a limit 16 people attending per meeting so it is necessary to sign up ahead of time. I’ve made a list of forty or so titles that appeal to me as possible book of the month choices. Book suggestions are welcome if they meet these guidelines: · The book must provide insights into a certain culture or conflict of culture (s). · The choice should be ‘literary’. In other words, no pulpy best sellers or simple coming of age stories. There are lots of books out there that have won prizes or have been short-listed for prestigious awards. · The choice should strive to ‘bounce around the globe’ so that the next month’s selection centres on a different continent than the last. - The choice should be readily accessible by the local public library. FORMAT: - The zoom link will be sent to you automatically as soon as you sign up through meetup. Each session will last no more than two hours. If you are new to Zoom and want to practice, send me a message and we can set up a time a few days before. - Participants will be capped at 16, so if you change your mind about attending, change your response to not attending or let me know at least one day ahead. The few meetings we’ve had so far have had some wonderful discussions!
