[close] Girls Against began as a campaign that aimed to establish a discussion of the issue of sexual assault at gigs and although this discussion has been firmly established, we are still working on expanding it. We are hoping to use this book club to bring to light the issues surrounding it - i.e the deep-rooted attitudes installed in our culture that have made sexual assault at gigs commonplace. We want to stimulate discussion whilst also amplifying the voices of authors whose views are in alignment with the campaigns whether they are authors of fiction/non-fiction texts or poetry. We'd love for you to join us in reading and discussing some thought-provoking and interesting texts!

[close] Radical Reading is a new GR bookclub group dedicated to nonfiction books on various topics from a progressive, liberating, anti-racist, feminist and queer perspective. We have buddy reads and an active discussion board, where we talk about the books we read, exchange ideas or just have fun. Our goal is to engage in lively, productive and respectful conversations to expand our horizon and become an advocate/activist for positive societal change. The range of nonfiction books we read and discuss is wide, covering genres such as history, economy, art, sociology or politics. Our group is still new and thus a work in progress, however we gladly welcome new members! Please read the guidelines for a membership request. Guidelines for requesting membership 1) Prospective members must have an active public profile; a request from an inactive and non-public profile is rejected 2) We have mandatory questions you must answer when you apply 3) Authors are welcome; however self-promotion is not allowed 4) We may reject an application if we feel that the person is not joining in good faith, e.g. just here to provoke, troll or spread hateful content; or for the reasons stated under 1) and 2)

[close] I've found that sadly, on many groups here, feminism is considered a dirty word. They censor and they close down a gal's opinions. Well not here. This is a group for women to unapologetically discuss feminism and a female-focused future. Especially with regard to promoting a more female-centric literary sector. Women read far more than men and yet we STILL do not get the representation we deserve. Female authors continue to be put down by male critics. Why is it that men feature so prominently in literary awards when they clearly don't deserve it? So ladies, feel free to start threads here, reply, discuss, even argue. This is a zone where your voice rules and the patriarchy can't silence you. And men? Note that this group is for one sex only: women. If you have a penis, go and start your own group because you will be removed from this one.

[close] Each month a theme will be set with a suggested book for each age group (adult, young adult, 8-12 years, young children). You do not have to stick to your age group, it's just to provide a little something for everyone. Some months adult themes may be included, there will be a warning given prior if this is the case. If you add a book to the tbr please let a moderator know the key themes, genres and age range that it falls under.
