[close] Join us for a year of member-run group reads to make 2015 the year of reading women! Rules Members are free to create author threads by surname if they do not currently exist—but be sure to search the group first to see if a thread is already present before starting a new one! When creating new author threads, please be sure to link author (you'll see this just under the subject field) so that it shows up on the main Goodreads page for that author. This will allow others who are not members to still have access to this group's discussion threads across the entire site. We ask that members do not create other threads at this time; we will create them in the "meta" section as the need for them arises—e.g., there will be a threads for each month, to have a hand place where people can "advertise" their upcoming group reads in case others haven't seen them formed in the specific author threads. Regarding the sharing of books: what members do in private is their own business, but as a group, we cannot condone piracy, so any public posts regarding indiscriminate e-book sharing will be deleted by the moderators. [close] Scattered Minds is about using literature to bring people together from various locations to engage in Social-Political commentary. Primarily to engage in a manner that is not draining and both supports and promotes the mental well-being of marginalized people that are struggling to remain engaged during the darker times of our lives in the US and our relationship to the Global World. Scattered Minds wants to create an enjoyable and supportive atmosphere for people who want to continue to educate themselves.

[close] Are you a feminist, interested in feminist history, interested in horror, or gothic literature? If you are interested in any of those, join this group. If you are interested in all of the above, you will love the female gothic. Female gothic literature is literature written by women that uses gothic worlds and settings to bring into question gender roles, expectations, and norms. The use of symbols and tropes is very significant in the female gothic. Traditional stories may have naively curious heroines, such as Mysteries of Upolpho. Other works such as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein play with character relations to show female struggles. There are layers and layers of depth to the female gothic, something worthy of endless conversations. Join this group to recommend female gothic literature, read some, or learn about the female gothic.
