If you are interested in all of the above, you will love the female gothic. Female gothic literature is literature written by women that uses gothic worlds and settings to bring into question gender roles, expectations, and norms. The use of symbols and tropes is very significant in the female gothic. Traditional stories may have naively curious heroines, such as Mysteries of Upolpho. Other works such as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein play with character relations to show female struggles. There are layers and layers of depth to the female gothic, something worthy of endless conversations. Join this group to recommend female gothic literature, read some, or learn about the female gothic.
