Uncertain of what I should work on at the time, I was starting everyday with a prompted "free-write." I'd set my alarm for 15 minutes, then feverishly type whatever came to mind to complete the sentence I had randomly selected from a list of prompts. Many of these were rubbish but a handful really intrigued me and I realized, once I collected all of those good starts in one place, that the connecting theme was that they were all about family relationships. So that's how it got started.(less)

Over the course of 2022, I've written the first draft of two separate novels and am actively working on one of them (the currently unnamed "Havenswood project") for publication in 2023.

Both of these books fall into the women's fiction genre and deal with topics of personal growth, relationships, and self-discovery.(less)

Susan Carew indeed takes things beyond in this book—the main characters and themes you loved in Take the Plunge are back, but we’re swimming into new, unchartered territory too. I love a good metaphor, and this story is built on one!

“She pushed her chair away from the desk and wandered into the kitchen where she gazed out the window and thought. There were birds chirping cheerfully and two squirrels chasing each other without a care in the world. She wanted to be like those squirrels. Or at least to appear like them to the rest of the world.”
Dani J. Norwell, Fairly Familiar: A Collection of Short Stories

“Before she knew it, a rusty green pick-up truck was slowly rolling to a stop in front of her; her carriage had arrived.”
Dani J. Norwell, Fairly Familiar: A Collection of Short Stories

“Her heart pounded; her adrenaline rushed. The calm crashing of the ocean waves was completely drowned out by bass-heavy pop mixes pumping out of the stereo systems that seemed to span the coastline. As she tried to take in full, deep breaths to calm her racing mind, things only became worse as the crowds of glitter, loud colors, and bows began spinning all around her. This was cheer world.”
