Attolia

Irene is the queen of Attolia. Married to a nobleman at a young age, said nobleman's family killed her father and half-brothers and assumed she would be a puppet queen for her husband. However, she engineered the deaths of him and the next baron who tried to seize power, and started consolidating power. She and Eugenides have had a love-hate relationship through the series: although she imprisoned him and later cut off his hand for stealing Hamiathes's Gift, she marries him at the end of The Queen of Attolia.
