Eugenides

During The Thief, Gen is taken out of a Sounis prison to steal a lost Attolian treasure, Hamiathes's Gift, accompanied by Sounis's Magus, his two apprentices - Sophos and Ambiades - and the guard Pol. However, he pretends to lose the Gift before seeking safety with his cousin, Eddis.
At the beginning of Queen of Attolia, he is caught in one of Attolia's palaces, and she orders his right hand cut off. In response, Eddis starts a three-way war between Eddis, Attolia and Sounis. He kidnaps Attolia towards the end of the book, proposes to her, and is promptly captured by the Median ambassador to Attolia, who himself wants to marry Attolia. However, by the end of the book the Eddisian and Attolian forces combine to beat the Medes.
Eugenides and Irene (Attolia) marry at the beginning of King of Attolia, and publicly clash and irritate each other, while personally are very affectionate.…more
