Robert Baston
Robert Baston was a 14th century English Carmelite monk and prior of the Abbey of Scarborough. King Edward II sent him with his army to Scotland with instructions to write a poem celebrating his anticipated victory over Robert the Bruce. After the battle of Bannockburn on 23rd and 24th June 1314, Baston was held captive by the Scots but permitted to write his poem.
