You might like them. They're mostly set in Dublin, but they have the same quality of familiarity with a small community and very personal stories. My favorites are Scarlet Feather, Tara Road, Evening Class, Firefly Summer, and The Glass Lake.

You might also like Rosamund Pilcher. She wrote a bunch of short books that are kind of formula romance, but her five or six longer books are much better and give you the feel, like this book, of the atmosphere of Scotland, mingled with the intense and interesting lives of her characters. The best ones are The Shell Seekers, September, Coming Home, and Winter Solstice. And if you like her books, her son, Robin Pilcher, writes books along the same lines, usually (like this book of Colgan's) focused on people in busy, stressed out London moving for a variety of reasons up to quiet, calm Scotland, and making a new kind of life.(less)
