okay, I must ask because I don;t get it. What does it have to do with One Direction? how did so many people read it and like it? how is it different from all those ya novels?

This answer contains spoilers… (view spoiler)[ In the fan fiction-reading community, there are stories that are based on the actual person/character, for example, if this story were about Harry Styles in a boy band, it would be the kind that's actually based on the real-life character. Then, there are AU stories, which stands for "Alternate Universe", i.e., Harry Styles- who is actually a band member in real life- is depicted as a normal college boy instead of an international pop star. This kind of fan fiction style is very popular and common in the One Direction fandom. That's what it has to do with One Direction. It's LOOSELY based on them, therefore if you change the names it's as if you could never tell it was a fan fiction about Harry Styles.
A lot of people read it and did not like it because for one, it is TERRIBLY written. It's almost hard to believe Anna Todd is twenty-five. The plot.. what plot? Another thing that made people dislike it so much is the themes in it. Themes of abuse, drinking, assault, DUI.. The character of "Hardin" isolates, humiliates and intimidates Tessa. He drinks every time something bad happens (He's an ANGRY, jealous drunk.). He has horrible, triggering anger rages and in the author's eyes the only thing that solves these problems are them having sex. Honestly, that's the only bond they have: sex. Hardin beats anyone who looks at Tessa to a pulp. It's a trashy book that romanticizes abuse and drinking.
Keep in mind this is a FANFICTION about a boy band member that appeals to TEENAGE girls. These teenage girls are probably thinking, "Hey, if my man abuses me like this it's okay because he loves me, the sex is great and he just needs to work it out." Anna Todd seems to justify Hardin's behavior by saying that he is that way because his father was abusive towards him during his childhood as well. It's just a sickening book- better you stray far away from it. She's tried to milk this thing out for so much money- I really do hope Harry Styles can find some grounds that he can sue her on. This is just WRONG profit. As trashy as Fifty Shades was, at least E.L James had the decency to realize she was publishing a series about FICTIONAL characters, not a series about a mortified 20 year old band member who's gonna have this TRASH excuse of a book following him his entire career. Can everyone stop hating on this book if you think just because it's a fan fiction it's bad then leave and ignore the book and leave us who enjoy it to be happy. Geesh. She is an amazing writer and a better writer than you will ever be so just stop and leave

I have no real "hate" for this book, but I do strongly feel that this particular book is glorifying and romanticizing abusive relationships. Anna Todd masked this love as if its something to desire. That's what people--like me--have a problem with.
And saying, "She is...a better writer than you will ever be" makes me me want to laugh. I think you're overestimating her talent. Read something that will enlighten you, ~~not feed on your low-self esteem.~~ (less)

I had to ask cause I can't get it. Why, I mean like everyone hates this book?

Hardin keeps messing with Tessa's feelings and making her feel bad about herself, now I do consider it fine if this happens once, but the entire plot is drifted around it. All they do is a fight because he didn't tell her anything or did something stupid, she says she never wants to see him again, he apologises and the makeup and do dirty things.

I personally do not hate this book, even if someone might say that it is badly written I did enjoy it for the most time while reading it, I just get really fed up with it after a little while. (All the fighting)

I watched the film and due to my age it reminded me of cruel intentions the film even features Selma blare who was in the film. Hardin appears to be like Sebastian and Tessa like Annett. I am right??
