Odette Brethouwer Everybody is loving The Circle so much, but I find it SO overhyped. It is just badly written, imho.

I adore ZERO, which has a much better plot, and Blackout is also amazingly good!

message 152: by Kiana (new)

Kiana Reid Howl's Moving Castle
Daughter of Deep Silence
I think are really underrated books.

message 153: by Garth (new)

Garth Mailman None

message 154: by Shrestha (new)

Shrestha Mukherjee I really don't understand how Jon Krakaeur could be under rated

message 155: by Meleka (new)

Meleka Taylor That book was freaking awesome. One of my favorite reads so far.

message 156: by Kevin (new)

message 157: by Erin (new)

message 158: by Kate (new)

Kate Matson I love finding underrated gems. :)

message 159: by Mirjam (last edited May 13, 2016 03:44PM) (new)

Mirjam de Graaf Wallace Stegner - Crossing to safety is way way way better than Stoner. So far the only bookclub-book we all agreed on: brilliant.

message 160: by Natalie (new)

Natalie "Alif the Unseen" by G. Willow Wilson. Simply amazing, and I've never seen it referenced anywhere. I loved it.

"Neverwhere" by Neil Gaiman is also great, with a similar feel, and though I don't hear that book talked about, he is a more well-known author overall.

Rukhau wrote: "THE CHRONICLES OF ANCIENT DARKNESS by Michelle Paver! And Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson!"

Oh yes, definitely the Chronicles!!! 100% agree! And also Wizard of Earthsea (and the whole Cycle) by Ursula K. Le Guin.

message 162: by Kate (new)

Kate Matson Rusti by Philip Pearce deserves way more attention.

message 163: by Amber (new)

Amber Everything Leads to You read it recently and it's so good <3

message 164: by Marilyn (new)

Marilyn Olson Naiera lotfi wrote: "I am pilgrim, discredited the whole list for me."

I would love to see that list!,

message 165: by Zora (new)

Zora So 100000 ratings and 10000 reviews is somehow an ignored book???? Poor thing!

Carol (§CoverLoverGirl§) Susiem wrote: "AgCl wrote: "i wonder IF they'd ever make a list on the most overrated books?"

yup overrated...Go Set a Watchman and The Casual Vacancy. Had they been written by another author never should be men..."

I've bought and read both of these books and I would agree that they did not live up to expectations or hype. They relied on the reputation of the author. EVeryone knew Rowling was author of "Casual Vacancy".

message 167: by Melliott (new)

Melliott Tabi wrote: "Hard to understand why anything by V.E. Schwab is underrated . . ."

That's exactly what I thought! Especially this one, her best!

message 168: by Melliott (new)

Melliott Maureen wrote: "I really wish GR would have a specific designation for YA novels so when a YA title is on one of these lists, I don't waste my time looking it up."

Are you saying this because you think YA books aren't worth reading? Because many of them are as well-loved by adults as they are by teenagers...(speaking as a teen librarian) (who is not a young person!)

message 169: by Cindy (new)

Cindy The Edge of Sadness by Edwin O'Connor.
A Pulitzer winner for a reason!

message 170: by Adriana (new)

Adriana I would say The bronze horseman by Paulina Simons...

message 171: by Tony (new)

Tony Mcinerney Tony mcinerney red revenge Charlie Wilkes

crime thriller

it's not what you think from review thanks tesco

message 172: by FantasyRomance4Ever (last edited May 15, 2016 02:55PM) (new)

FantasyRomance4Ever Tiger's Curse Tiger's Curse (The Tiger Saga, #1) by Colleen Houck is by far my favorite book ever. It is fantasy romance and reminds me of Twilight, but minus the weak and wimpering protagonist. Kelsey is as strong as the males and this book is amazing!

message 173: by ♥ Rebecca ♥ (new)

♥ Rebecca ♥ I only read The Sea of Tranquility. Hated it.

message 174: by Lyall (new)

Lyall Dawson Susiem wrote: "AgCl wrote: "i wonder IF they'd ever make a list on the most overrated books?"

I haven't read Go Set a Watchman so cannot comment on that but I found The Casual Vacancy to be compelling in a voyeuristic way. The problem with it is, everyone is very human and, therefore, not particularly likeable. I believe this was the author's intention, to show people as they really are; bound up in their own petty ambitions and prejudices and, once you get to know them, not very likeable.

message 175: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Naiera lotfi wrote: "I am pilgrim, discredited the whole list for me."

Ditto!

message 176: by Jesse (new)

Jesse Duplechain Bag of Bones Stephen King... Underrated for a Stephen King book anyway

message 177: by Tony (new)

Tony Mcinerney I read a hundred years of Solitude on holiday I would say that characterisation is possibly the best thing an author can produce. Great book but characters are the same generation to generation and the ending not great, so why does Rushtie rate so highly can anyone explain

message 178: by Ingo (new)

Ingo ~ Odette wrote: "Everybody is loving The Circle so much, but I find it SO overhyped. It is just badly written, imho.

As a German, I have Zero bought and TBR, and also liked Blackout, but these two are not available in English, I think.
Started The Circle (long ago bought) and cannot really get into it, reading other books in between.

message 179: by Homakp (last edited May 16, 2016 01:18PM) (new)

Homakp Tabi wrote: "Hard to understand why anything by V.E. Schwab is underrated . . ."
Well, i think it's kind of underrated; 'cause i'd never heard of it before i saw it here.

message 180: by H.S.J. (new)

H.S.J. Williams ANY of the Tales of Goldstone Wood by Anne Elisabeth Stengl, because they are seriously the most beautiful and potent epic fantasy....

The Queen's Thief by Megan Whalen Turner

message 185: by Allibug (new)

Allibug The Summer Prince by Alaya Dawn Johnson is really underrated, IO think:
The Summer Prince

message 186: by Anna (new)

Anna "Above the East China Sea," by Sarah Bird ...So impressed with how this novel moved back and forth in history and told the stories of multiple characters across different generations, from World War II to present day. I'm surprised that there wasn't more talk about this one. It's great for historical fiction fans, but also crosses genres into fantasy and into topics of spirituality and family dynamics.

message 187: by Kristine (new)

Kristine Time and Again by Jack Finney. Heard about it from a friend. Made me think time travel really is possible. I suggest it to anybody who tells me they love New York City.

message 188: by Marbeth (new)

Marbeth The Thirteenth Tale so mysterious. Awesome!

message 189: by Allie (new)

Allie Gone by: Michael Grant should be on this list. This list seems great tho.

message 190: by Katherine (last edited May 17, 2016 09:35PM) (new)

An underrated book in an underrated genre: the fantastical short story.

message 191: by Wanderlust_Wanz (new)

Wanderlust_Wanz Sea of Tranquillity is so so good that I reread it like 3 times already. Now I feel like rereading it again haha, to experience yet again those magical moments.

message 192: by Emmanuel (new)

Emmanuel Please i need help, how can one read this books online

message 193: by Ingo (last edited May 18, 2016 04:06AM) (new)

Ingo Legally? Only if you buy them - Amazon.Com has a Web-Reader where you read your ebooks online, other shops may also offer such service.
If you find them elsewhere and do not have to pay for it, it is probably not legal, depending where you live. If you read a lot I would look into a library or subscription service (again, Amazon offers ebooks 1 / month with Prime and more with Kindle Unlimited). These both lack some books, you are restricted to reading what they offer, but it may well be enough for you.

Anna Marbeth wrote: "The Thirteenth Tale so mysterious. Awesome!"
