Teri Davidson McDonough Just found out he grew up in N.J (as I did) and wrote Palisades Park. It was a famous amusement park in Jersey. I have added to my read list.

Talia (Julia) B The covers look so modern, which I don't like. It kind of makes me not want to read them more.

Maryum ❤ Umm.... sea of tranquility is not underrated. I strongly disliked the book because of a certain lifestyle and image that it sold to the readers but everyone else seemed to praise it. But I'll be sure to check the rest of them out.

Sarah Nessler I have yet to read anything on this list but some of them look very interesting. They will be added to my never-ending list.

Nea Some of these "underrated" books have ratings well over 4 stars.

Yaaresse So define "underrated."
To me, it's something that has received very little attention, a "hidden gem" that no one seems to notice either because the author is unknown or the work is overshadowed by their more commercial successes. It can also means a book of very high quality writing that is overlooked due to poor marketing, bad timing, obscure themes, etc. "Underrated" books don't make bestseller lists, don't make authors rich, don't get movies made of them, don't get reviews numbering in the thousands.

(By any of that criteria, Twilight is absolutely NOT underrated. If anything, it's proof any old crap can become popular for no apparently reason whatsoever.)

Apparently, everyone else seems to think it means something else because most of these books have plenty of votes and fairly high (for GR) ratings. As someone else said, there's a cognitive disconnect in selecting books with the MOST votes to compile a list of underrated books anyway.

Sunny Shore Kristine wrote: "Time and Again by Jack Finney. Heard about it from a friend. Made me think time travel really is possible. I suggest it to anybody who tells me they love New York City."

Not underrated....

Sunny Shore Revival by Stephen King
Most of his book lately are not as good as his earlier ones, but this one is and resembles his old style.

Haha, I thought the same thing.

message 210: by Janice (new)

Janice Rune wrote: "Theft of Swords is one of the worst books I've ever read. It's comically awful in almost every way. Plot, writing, characterisation.

It's kind of a shame, but it highlights why this isn't a useful..."

Disagree. "I Am Pilgrim", once it got going, was non-stop action.
