Got a Kindle E-reader? Now Your Goodreads Want to Read List Is on the Kindle Home Page!
If you read on a Kindle ereader, we know that moment you are thinking of: You've just finished a book, and you're ready for another. Now we've made it even easier to access your Goodreads to-read list! We worked with the Kindle team, and the latest Kindle ereader software update puts your Goodreads Want to Read list (and if you have one, your Amazon Wish List) front and center on the Kindle Home page. Goodreads is great at helping you find your next favorite book—now it will be simpler than ever to start reading it!

See what your Goodreads friends are reading, right from your Kindle.
Seeing what friends are reading is one of our favorite ways to discover new books on Goodreads. The new Kindle ereader Home screen rotates to show you personalized recommendations and books your Goodreads friends are reading, along with a profile photo of a friend who has it their shelves. Tap on the profile photo to see more friend activity around the book, including your friends' reviews. Tap on the book itself to download a sample or purchase and start reading! Books are always better with friends.

Our updated version of Goodreads is available in a free, over-the-air software update delivered automatically on the new Kindle, the Kindle Voyage, and the last two generations of Kindle Paperwhite in the United States, Canada, India, UK, Ireland, and Australia in the coming weeks. Can't wait? You can also visit Fire & Kindle Software Updates to download it manually now.
Wondering when your country or device will get this? Goodreads is currently available on the latest versions of Kindle e-readers and Fire tablets in the United States, Canada, India, UK, Ireland, and Australia. We don't have details to share about other devices or about introducing Goodreads to Kindle e-readers or Fire tablets in other countries at this time. However, our goal is to provide the Goodreads experience on Kindle e-readers and Fire tablets to as many of our members as possible. In the meantime, other options to consider are our iPhone/iPad app or our Android app, available from the Amazon Appstore for Android or from Google Play.

Hi Claire -- the update is available in the UK, too!

Nyssa if your paperwhite has the Amazon logo on the back instead of the Kindle one then you are probably 6th generation and will get the update.

Hi Nyssa,
Unfortunately, the update isn't available for the Paperwhite 2 at this moment.
Sukhesh

From Amazon's POV, it should make it available on as many devices as it can because the easier it is for me to click on a title, the easier it is for Amazon to get paid.

It does have the Amazon logo, and I have the previous GR capabilities - like recommendations, and status updates.

Then you have the 6th generation kindle also referred to as Paperwhite 2 released in fall of 2013. Since they said the update would go out to the last two generations of Paperwhites this means 6th and 7th generation e-readers.

Thank you! I'm hoping then that Sukhesh's comment means that while I won't be in the first wave of updates, that it will be available later on.

I'm not sure what timetable Amazon has for pushing out the updates but since I never leave my Paperwhite connected to wireless I grab the updates manually from Amazon. This is where I download the latest firmware: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custome...
If you are unsure of your device generation I wouldn't advise anyone else do it manually.

Apologies, I misunderstood your comment. If you do indeed have a 6th generation Kindle Paperwhite (which was released late 2013) you will definitely be getting the update.

Thank you for confirming. I tried looking up the exact generation based on my serial number, and all I saw was Paperwhite 2 2013. That was also the only info on the actual order on Amazon.

Thank you, again.

Try this link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom... but if you have the Amazon logo on back you are 6th
I just updated my firmware and OMG it's worth it just for the new quick menu! super fast access to wireless on/off and brightness settings, yay! As for the new layout of the home screen it's not really bad and it's actually displaying my amazon wishlist in a tasteful little side window on the right, only 3 book titles with the option to click more.

For those that want to turn it off
Settings-->Device Options-->Personalize your Kindle-->Advanced Options-->turn top button( Home Page View) on or off
I like the new home page view, but I wish I could designate the shelf shown in the reading lists. I have my own exclusive shelves I would prefer to use. I don't really have that much on the want to read one anymore.
But overall the integration now is much nicer and faster on my Voyage, I like it. THe recommendation feature on goodreads is also neat. As it uses star ratings I gave so it has a purpose.

Thank you for encouraging me to update this manually. I've only played around with it for a few seconds, but I like it!
Like many people, I use my "Want to Read" shelf for books already in my possession, but UI think having it on the homescreen will help to remind me of what's waiting on my TBR pile (and curb any impulse buys).
If, however, there is a book I know I want to get from my Wishlist, I can just switch over and get what I want.
Awesome! :)

I only saw firmware updates for the e-readers not the tablets (Fire's) and the blog post specifically says "E-reader" so probably not yet.
Kindle E-readers are the Kindle, Paperwhite & Voyage devices.

I also love that you see the page you're on, the total number of pages, time left in chapter and percentage when you tap the screen to pull up the UI (to bookmark your spot, for instance).

Hi Jacob,
This update is just for Kindle e-Readers, so it will not work for Fire devices.

Thanks for the information. Though GR and Amazon say this if for readers, it's really to drive sales. I will definitely disable this feature. It would be more helpful if we could choose the GR list that's displayed (or none at all). My To Read list is huge.

I find it interesting that people are "upset" that two, for profit companies, are trying to do just that - make a profit. As I stated earlier, for me personally, it will help to remind me of what I already own. That translates to less money spent, which is very beneficial to my bank account.

You also can't, as far as I can figure, update your reading progress, which is annoying because I am reading ON the Kindle and would like to just update my progress right there. Goodreads is one of several apps that work so poorly on the Kindle Fire that instead I open a browser and use the internet version.

My reaction as well. I suddenly feel the time and effort I spent zeroing that to-read shelf at the close of the year was very well invested.

Worst of all, though, is the recommendations across the bottom occasionally turning into a big Kindle Unlimited billboard. Hey, Amazon, remember when I gave y'all twenty bucks to not have ads on the home page any more? Because I remember. >:\
On the upside, the list view still works fine, and the new UI is pretty sharp looking.
EDIT: removed some repetition.

Sure you can. I've been doing that on both my PW & Fire for over a year. What generation Fire do you have?

Thanks Joshua, I'll try that!
