Make #timetoread on National Readathon Day! (U.S.)
Grab your latest book and charge your ereaders, bibliophiles. It's time for the first-ever National Readathon Day. On Saturday, January 24, join readers across America to make #timetoread for four hours in solidarity for literacy. (Of course, if you live outside the U.S. and want to make #timetoread, too, please join in!)
National Readathon Day, sponsored by Goodreads, the National Book Foundation, Penguin Random House, and Mashable, is a nationwide marathon reading session on Saturday, January 24th from noon-4 p.m. (in respective time zones) and a fundraiser for The National Book Foundation’s literacy programs.
Get involved on Goodreads by pledging to read any book you’d like. Visit our Readathon Challenge to share your selection with the rest of the Goodreads community. We‘ll add the book you choose to your “to-read” shelf (if it's not already there) and also add it to a special readathon-day-2015 shelf, where you can see everyone's Readathon picks site-wide!
Maybe you’re in the middle of something so good, you want four hours to finish it. Or perhaps there’s a novel that’s been on your to-read shelf for weeks that you’ve just been waiting for an excuse to start. If you need some suggestions, we’ve also shared our list of the best books of January.
If you’d like to get involved offline, check here for a list of “reading party” events. These events will be held at libraries, bookstores, and schools across the country and have been created so the community can come together to share their love of books!
Where will you be making #timetoread this Saturday? Share it with us in the comments below!

Will be reading a lot this week as usualInternationally Known: New York's Finest Part 2
I'm Forever New York's Finest part 3
No Ordinary Love
Love Delayed
Love Delivered
I work during those hours, but I'll read a different four hours that day. I'll start The Titan's Curse by Rick Riordan. #timetoread
I'll be reading All Rivers Flow To The Sea by Allison McGhee. It's a short enough read that I should be able to finish it easily within the span of four hours and perhaps start something else. Maybe I'll reread Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins, which is always a favorite.
Will most likely be reading Nefertiti's Heart and perhaps In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin between home and working at the local library bookstore :)
Does my birthday fall on National Readathon Day? Yes, yes it does. I'll be power-reading Unravel because I haven't been putting enough time aside to read it. #timetoread
I note this is American. Not good for Aamzons datamining of readers data ambitions. I might join in but does it help Amazons ambitions to have this US based?
I'll read Since you've been gone by Morgan Matson in my home in Mexico
I'll be reading anyway - not sure what I'll be reading, but it will be counting towards my yearly target :)#timetoread
Not sure if I'll be reading for four hours, but I'll be continuing my reading of Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami and The Uninvited, by Cat Winters. #timetoread
Will be reading "Burned" By Karen Marie Moning. Been waiting for the next installment in the series! :D
Yes, why is it national and not international, since Goodreads is an international site? Seems a shame to exclude everyone not in the US.

I am buying more books this weekend. I hope that I will be able to read. I am on my last new book from Christmas.
I will be reading The Martian War: A Thrilling Eyewitness Account of the Recent Invasion As Reported by Mr. H.G. Wells today. #timetoread

Just because it says 'national' and The National Book Foundation is American, doesn't mean that non-Americans are forbidden to participate :)
I'll be reading a Finnish biography (Madame: Minna Craucherin levoton elämä) here in Finland, and it'll begin my biography challenge.
I will try to get a four hour block in! I will be reading Silent Orchids (The Age of Alandria Book 1) or Veiled Shadows (The Age of Alandria Book 2) by Morgan Wyile. #timetoread
I'll be reading Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz at home #timetoread
I'll be continuing to read (seriously the volume I have is like 8000 pages) The Complete Works of Virginia Woolf
I can't read for 4 hours between noon and 4. I have to work; but I'll try to give 2 hours. I will be reading Candle Flame by Paul doherty
Suvi wrote: "Just because it says 'national' and The National Book Foundation is American, doesn't mean that non-Americans are forbidden to participate :)"Very true - although 'international' would feel a bit more inclusive! But stilll, it's not an international thing, and of course there is nothing wrong with an American project like this, which focuses on and raises money for American literacy, as it does, and we can of course all join in.
It's more the fact that Goodreads is an international site, so it is meaningless to address all members, talking about 'national' and 'nationwide', as if this is the same for everyone - 'national' does not mean 'American' unless you are American! This article could perhaps mention that 'national' refers to the US, and talk about it taking place throughout the US, rather than 'nationwide'.
National needs to be explained. National to me means across Canada. If it's U.S. only... then it needs to days to U.S. citizens only. Be specific.
I honestly don't think I can do it 12:00p-4:00p... That's prime "outdoor" time with the kiddos and I would feel neglectful using up that much weekend daytime glued to a book. However, I will happily read for four hours in the evening! I will be either finishing Grace's Guide: The Art of Pretending to Be a Grown-up or starting Forbidden!
