Easily Add Books You Purchased from Amazon to Your Goodreads Shelves! (Available for members in the U.S., Canada, and Australia)

Posted by Suzanne on April 15, 2014

Our members have been asking for a long time for a quick way to add their Amazon book purchases to their Goodreads shelves. So, we’ve come up with a new way to help: Today, we’re starting to roll out an Add Your Amazon Books feature! You can now add books you’ve purchased on Amazon – both print and Kindle books – to your Goodreads shelves. This will be available in the next few weeks to members in the U.S., Canada, and Australia.

Why add your Amazon purchases?

  • Building out your bookshelves means that more of your friends will know about your favorite books.
  • More books added to your Goodreads shelves means better recommendations to help you find more great books to read. The super-smart algorithm powering our recommendations engine analyzes the books you rate to come up with the best book suggestions for your unique reading tastes.
  • Do you remember every book you’ve read? This is a quick way to add more of those elusive books from your past to your Goodreads shelves—as well as books you’ve bought and are planning to read. Never forget a book again!

How do you know if you have the feature? You’ll see the Add Amazon Book Purchases link in the Tools list on the left hand side of the My Books page (and a small announcement at the top of the page). Click on either link and you’ll be asked to sign in to your Amazon account. You’ll then see your Amazon book purchases. You can go through and rate each book and select the appropriate shelf for it. We give you full control over which books to add so you can avoid adding any books bought as gifts. Any book not rated or added to a shelf will not be added to Goodreads.

Can’t wait to get started? If you are in the U.S., Canada, or Australia, you can get early access to the Add Your Amazon Books option by clicking this link:

Add Your Amazon Books

It's fun to scroll through years and years of book purchases. You just might come across a book you loved but then forgot--it’s like seeing a long-lost friend!

Members in the U.S., Canada, and Australia can also use the Add Your Amazon Books option on Goodreads on Kindle Paperwhite (first and second generation devices) and the new Kindle Fires.

Let us know what you think about the Add Your Amazon Books feature. Did you rediscover any forgotten books?

I went back to tracking books purchases and books read (all kinds, Kindle, Audiobooks, hard copies, etc.) in Excel. Requires some cut & paste, but more versatile and easier to check at a glance.

MLO Is there a way to add multiple Amazon books to one shelf without clicking each one?

message 103: by Jmsms (new)

Jmsms the link to add books is there, but the login always fails, even wiht the right password, etc., put in.

Radiantflux When will this be available for Amazon.de users?

Adrian Theuma I live in Australia and although the function is available no purchases are listed in goodreads. I normally purchase from amazon.com (US site).

Since this is an account-specific issue, please reach out to us here or email support (at) goodreads (dot) com. A member of our team will be happy to help you with this!

Cassandra I would like an add all option. I have way too many on my kindle for this feature to really be useful to me. Since I want to add them to a Kindle shelf I made, I have to click on that and then change from "read" to want to read since this option defaults to "read"

message 112: by Jen (new)

Jen Is there a way to reset this option so I can now import items I previously indicated not to? Also, I have over 2200 ebooks and who knows how many regular books. All purchased at Amazon.com and the import was less than 300 before the site informed me I have no books to import. (I definitely did not tell it to ignore 1900+ books.

Jen I've done that already to which I was told my books must be under some other account. (As if I don't know what account I sign in to.)

Caffeinated Fae Hi, I am having issues with this feature. I've found that a couple thousand of my books do not show up on the " Add Your Amazon Books to Goodreads" page. These seem to be books that I purchased in 2013-2014. Is there any way I can get these books to show up?

Thanks Emily, I just sent an email. Have a wonderful day!

So... I have to add them all individually from a list? No "add all" option? That's half-arsed functionality. No way I'm gonna sit here for six hours adding them all. :(

message 120: by Peter (new)

Peter Would be a great feature for other countries too (de for example ; - )

message 121: by Judie (new)

Judie I can see my books from Amazon and I can add them but it seems that adding them one at a time (a 2-step process with a pull-down menu to say "read" then a pop-up window that allows you to make comments, I have hundreds of books and I'd like to have them in Goodreads but doing this one by one by one is completely ridiculous! Am I missing something or is this the only way to add books from Amazon to Goodreads?

message 122: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Levy Add me to the list of people wanting some sort of bulk add feature. I have hundreds of books in my Kindle library and it's a MAJOR pain to have to add them one at a time!!!!

message 123: by Caffeinated Fae (new)

Caffeinated Fae A bulk add would be amazing!

message 124: by Aurélie (new)

Aurélie Will it be available for European kindlers soon ? 🙂

message 125: by Nenescoffee (new)

Nenescoffee Are you still working on importing from any other European kindles?

message 126: by SDGrave (new)

SDGrave When will this be available in Europe?
I have to add 200+ books by hand?

message 127: by Meredith (new)

Meredith How do I connect my amazon.ca account? It says this feature is supported for Canadian users, but when I unlink my .com account I can't find how to log in to a .ca account, where I make most purchases. I'm looking on both the apps page in settings and 'Add your Amazon books', and am also not finding any answers online. Thanks!

message 128: by Matthias (new)

Matthias We are still waiting for this in Europe.

message 129: by Kolina (new)

Kolina is there a option to do more than one at once? like in bulk? it takes a long time to choose shelf for each of them individually , thanks ;)

message 130: by Ash (new)

Ash Bruce This is wonderful, and I appreciate it. However, I have 1k books on amazon that I'd love to add all at once. I know not everyone would want that option, but could you make it more like a "shelf" so that we can "bulk add" ?:)

message 131: by Mark (new)

Mark Heddaeus For all of those looking for "bulk add", I used a Chrome extension named "Auto Clicker - AutoFill" to automate clicking the buttons.

All the books end up in "want to read", but at least they are in there.
