120 Books to Celebrate 30 Years of Oprah’s Book Club

Posted by Sharon on September 1, 2026

Presented by Oprah’s Book Club

Thirty years. That’s how long Oprah’s Book Club has been putting books into people’s hands, sparking conversations at kitchen tables, in group chats, and between total strangers on the subway. What started in 1996 as a simple idea (What if we all read the same book and talked about it?) became a reading movement, with millions of readers along the way. This September, Oprah’s team is celebrating that legacy with “30 Books I Can’t Forget,” a monthlong look back at the titles that stuck with Oprah long after she turned the last page.

This list is wide-ranging: It spans debut novels that introduced us to new voices we now can’t imagine the literary world without, to sweeping epics that reminded us what fiction can do at its biggest and most ambitious. Throughout September, Oprah’s Book Club will highlight one book per day across social channels, sharing why each title earned its place on the list.

Whether you’ve read every Oprah’s Book Club pick or you’re just getting started, there’s never been a better time to dive in. Goodreads has teamed up with Oprah to highlight the picks below from 30 years of the book club. Be sure to add the ones that pique your interest to your Want to Read shelf.
