45 New & Upcoming Cozy Mysteries for Your Next Caper

One of the more intriguing book-world trends in recent years is the expanding popularity of the cozy mystery. Often called cozies, these are mystery stories or crime fiction with a calmer vibe. Any violence or explicit sexuality takes place offstage (or offpage), and the stories tend to feature regular folks, amateur sleuths, and gentle humor.
The cozy mystery has been around forever, but the subgenre is experiencing a renaissance of late, spilling into mainstream cultural currents and other media formats (TV’s Only Murders in the Building, for instance).
In today’s collection, we’ve gathered 45 new and upcoming cozy mysteries for 2025, in case you want to get in on the action. Some spotlight titles, in no particular order: A circle of bibliophile friends discover a decidedly dead body in Freya Sampson’s The Busybody Book Club. A rogue nun investigates a creepy seaside town, circa 1954, in Jess Kidd’s Murder at Gulls Nest. And author Jesse Q. Sutanto brings back everyone’s favorite meddling auntie in Vera Wong's Guide to Snooping on a Dead Man.
Also look for new cozies from Kathleen West, Tamara Berry, and Vivien Chien. If you like your cozy mysteries in franchise form, there’s a new Murder, She Wrote book coming in March. And we appear to have a winner already for the year’s best book title pun.
In fact, that’s another great thing about cozy mysteries: You can often have a good time just reading the spines, which tell little stories in and of themselves. My Father Always Finds Corpses. No One Was Supposed to Die at this Wedding. The Really Dead Wives of New Jersey.
