Most Read Books of the 2023 Reading Challenge
With the 2023 Goodreads Reading Challenge in its final lap, the time has come for a sneak peek at this year’s page-turning action. For instance, which books have been most popular with readers in this year’s challenge? It’s pretty fascinating, actually.
But first, some raw numbers. According to our latest count, more than 7.6 million readers across the globe participated in this year’s challenge, pledging to read more than 330 million books. Wow. We tried to calculate the total number of pages read, using average book length, but it crashed the supercomputer here at Goodreads World Headquarters.
As for the books themselves, we’ve listed below the top titles marked as Read (as opposed to Want to Read) by those who signed up for the challenge. Some takeaways: Rebecca Yarros’ surprise sensation Fourth Wing took the top overall spot, highlighting a big year for fantasy-romance novels in general. You’ll also find a lot of familiar author names haunting the top side of the list: Hoover and Henry, Maas and Michaelides.
Click around and you’ll find a little bit of everything—from mysteries to memoirs, queer fantasy to insightful contemporary fiction. And, of course, plenty of romance, with everyone from book nerds to hockey players finding love and/or lust. Oh, also: magical realism concerning octopi.

Read 23 of them and only have a couple others on my want to read pile.
I've read 14, and a bunch are on my tbr list still!

I read one. Bought two of Emily Henry but haven't read yet. Probably will do before the New Year.
I read 6 of these books. Some favorites were The Housemaid, The Perfect Marriage and Mad Honey.
read 19! DNF'd Daisy Jones; not that big a fan of the Housemaid and was incredibly frustrated at the ending of Happy Place.

I really loved The Seven Husbands of Evelyne Hugo and The Song of Achilles (easily one of my favorite book ever) !! Beach Read is a little overrated but still a good book too

I've read 5, maybe not all this year though. Probably 4 this year.
I'll offer a contrast to what a lot of people are commenting:As opposed to them, despite having read >50 books each year for at least the past 5 or 6, I have not read a single book on this list. Guess there have just been other things enticing me! I have no doubt these are good books - so many good ones and only so much time for reading.
That will change soon, as I'll be getting Remarkably Bright Creatures from the library once it is available, but I'm just surprised I seem to be that far from the popular list.
I’ve read 14. A couple of my favorites are I’m glad My Mom is Dead and Remarkably Bright Creatures. Lots of TBR! Can’t wait!

I've read 8 of these and marked a few onto my list to read. What was interesting to me is how diverse everyone's reading can be.
